RIGA TWP. A tornado caused damage Sunday night to houses, barns and trees in Riga Township, the National Weather Service confirmed late Monday.
There were no injuries or fatalities caused by the tornado, just property damage and downed trees.
“We are probably pretty lucky; lucky that (the tornado) impacted a fairly rural area,” Lenawee County Emergency Management Coordinator Craig Tanis said Tuesday. “We obviously feel for the families and the persons whose houses and barns sustained the most damage. Other houses sustained minimal damage, lost trees, had roofing issues. It could have been a lot worse. We are in no way minimizing what those with the most damage are going through right now.”

(ABC 6 News) -For those who live in Worth County, Iowa, some upgrades are coming to the emergency notification system, Alert Iowa.
Alert Iowa is a statewide emergency notification system that enables state and local officials to communicate emergency information directly to citizens.
The changes make it easier to sign up and receive alerts about severe weather and other emergencies.
They also give emergency responders a chance to better communicate information by phone or by text message.
Messages can also be translated into multiple languages. It s a state-run system but each county can use the system to send out alerts for their county and their communities in that county, Worth County Emergency Management Coordinator, Mark Tomlinson said.
