Ray Funderburk III was removed from the Cape Fear Community College Board of Trustees last week. Now that he’s off the board, he’s sharing two concerning experiences he said happened during his tenure.
Longtime Cape Fear Community College trustee Jimmy Hopkins was removed after a disagreement with college President Jim Morton. He later challenged the county's authority to remove him and threatened legal action which he has now walked away from.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The past year has been unprecedented in so many ways due in large part to the COVID-19 pandemic. On Monday morning County Chairwoman Julia Olson-Boseman gave the annual State of the County address, something that is usually held in February.
“We typically share our State of the County in early February, but we postponed this year’s a bit because we were in the height of our vaccination efforts and planning, and April felt like a great month to highlight the work of the county since it is National County Government Month,” she said.

CAROLINA BEACH N.C. (WECT) - New developments Thursday in the ongoing debate between the Town of Carolina Beach and New Hanover County after inspectors from New Hanover County took to Carolina Beach at the behest of County Chairwoman Julia Olson-Boseman.
Chief of the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal Brian Taylor emailed WECT a statement today saying he got a call from Carolina Beach Fire Chief Alan Griffin after Griffin first learned the county was coming down to do their own inspections at the fire scene â something the Fire Marshal says isnât allowed unless the town asks for their involvement.
