Since 1991, the National Association of Counties has encouraged this commemoration for counties to raise awareness about the essential programs and services they offer to support residents and businesses.
The theme for this yearâs tribute, âCounties Matter,â recognizes these critical functions, especially the leadership and guidance counties have demonstrated in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.Â

GENESEO â Livingston County is celebrating National County Government Month during the month of April to showcase how the county serves residents and achieves healthy, safe and vibrant communities.
The theme for this yearâs celebration of National County Government Month is âCounties Matter,â demonstrating how counties help to improve peopleâs lives every day, especially for local government workers on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic.
âLivingston County is proud of the programs and services we provide to our residents,â County Administrator Ian M. Coyle said in a news release. âIn a year full of unimaginable challenges, Livingston County stepped up and faced this pandemic head on, providing the emergency response and other essential services that our residents rely on. I salute all our county employees and encourage residents to participate in National County Government Month.â

The Commissioners of St. Mary’s County held their regular business meeting Tuesday, April 20, 2021, in the Chesapeake Building in Leonardtown.
The Commissioners recognized important milestones and initiatives by presenting Proclamations for National Public Library Week, National Child Abuse Prevention Month, National Fair Housing Month, Administrative Professionals Month and National County Government Month.

As part of National County Government Month, Baxter County is hosting the “I Love Baxter County” event Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Baxter County Fairgrounds.
Baxter County officials invite the public to join them in celebrating and discovering the answer to the question, “I love my county because?”
Visitors will be able to discover the answer to those questions as they tour the many departments of Baxter County.
The event will feature fun, food, music and prizes.
