PAYETTE â As the Western Treasure Valley has grown in population in recent years, officials on the Payette Airport Commission are working with the Payette City Council to plan growth at the Payette Municipal Airport around that growth. Specifically, the two parties aim to ensure adequate standards for parties looking to set up hangars at the airport.
âThey basically would like to a little bit more of a written policy for hangars ⦠we really donât have a plan for where you put hangars,â said Councilor Ray Wickersham.
In her agenda statement to the council dated April 30, deputy city clerk Bobbie Black noted the commissionâs aim to clarify what private parties can and cannot do with their hangars in the cityâs âMinimum Standardsâ rules. The commissionâs proposed changes appeared on the agenda for the councilâs regular meeting on May 3.
PAYETTE â To raise (the legal age to buy tobacco products), or not to raise? Thatâs the question which the Payette City Council sought to answer during its regular meeting on Monday.
Back on the agenda for its second reading was Ordinance 1487, which would amend Payette City Code 9.56.010 to raise the legal age to purchase or possess tobacco products in the city from 18 years of age to 21.
Councilor Daniel Lopez observed that the existing code pre-dates the marketing of e-cigarettes and similar products.
âOur current ordinance doesnât have any reflection on vaping products,â said Lopez.
Sgt. Brad Coen, who serves as a school resource officer for the Payette School District, told the council other than a handful of calls about tobacco possession, issues arenât widespread at schools.

Supportive housing group draws town’s ire again Written by Geoffrey Plant on January 27, 2021
Silver City town councilors adopted two ordinances Tuesday night that further streamlined the town zoning in two neighborhoods, and, for a third time, approved a notice of intent to adopt a labor management relations ordinance that will bring Silver City’s local labor relations board into compliance with state law.
One of the zone changes was at the request of the owner of a Brewer Hill property that now houses a homeless shelter.
The council met virtually Tuesday night via the GoToMeeting app due to the coronavirus pandemic.
