A Boston city councilor with a record of ducking key public safety votes and overseeing a budget last year that sought to cut millions from the police department left the room this week to avoid voting on four police contract funding requests.
A spat from last term spilled over into the first Boston City Council committee hearing of the year, with the body’s new president Ruthzee Louijeune and former president Ed Flynn sparring over his renewed push for a domestic violence committee.
After a tense discussion in which some councilors pushed for another hearing on the matter, the council ultimately voted to accept the funding, with 11 councilors in support and two abstaining.
