Covid vaccine assurances after supply shortage across Keighley district

ASSURANCES have been given over Covid-19 vaccine supplies across the Keighley district after a shortage limited the number of patients able to receive a jab. Centres at Long Lee and Silsden had the capacity to vaccinate many thousands more last week, but were restricted due to supply. Modality Partnership, which operates the sites, confirms there were issues obtaining sufficient vaccine. But it says the vaccination programme is proving hugely successful and the supply situation is improving. Dr Brendan Kennedy, executive GP partner at Modality, said the issue was raised with MP Robbie Moore when he visited the centres. We discussed how we need more vaccines – as we have the capacity to deliver many thousands more vaccinations per week, said Dr Kennedy.

Tributes to Keighley-born Captain Sir Tom Moore continue to flood in; virtual book of condolence to be opened

He had been admitted to Bedford Hospital, where he died on Tuesday. Captain Tom captured the hearts of the nation last year when he walked laps of his garden to mark his 100th birthday. His efforts raised an astonishing £32 million-plus for NHS charities. The war veteran had set out to raise £1,000 through his walking exploits, but donations poured in from across the UK and beyond. He subsequently received a string of honours. Captain Tom was knighted by the Queen – and received the Freedom of Keighley at an event organised by the town council. Among those paying tribute this week was Keighley MP Robbie Moore.

Keighley-district fly-tipping hotspots are revealed

FLY-tipping hotspots across the Keighley area have been revealed. The extent of the problem – described as “shocking” by the town’s MP – has been highlighted through data obtained via a Freedom of Information request. In a two-and-a-half-year period, more than 2,200 fly-tipping incidents were reported across the six Keighley-district Bradford Council wards. The area with the highest total was Keighley Central, where 771 cases were recorded. Its ward councillors say the problem is “a major issue”, but that work is being carried out to try to tackle it. “We’ve been working alongside other agencies on this for a long time,” said Councillor Khadim Hussain.
