Cooperative boards should be aware that there are three bills pending before the New York City Council that, if passed, will impose substantial requirements on the purchaser application.
The bills, which are backed by several Council members and are being championed by city Comptroller Brad Lander, aim to create more affordable housing through establishing a land bank to acquire property, studying the feasibility of creating a new “social housing” agency and allowing the city to give preference to non-profit developers in certain scenarios when public land is involved.
At-large Councilmembers represent the whole of DC. With one seat up for grabs in the June primaries, several candidates took to the virtual stage to state their views on housing, transportation, and land use issues.
