The North Dakota Attorney General has approved the sale and continued farming of about 2,100 acres of North Dakota farmland to a trust reportedly being held “for the benefit of” billionaire Bill Gates.
The North Dakota Attorney General’s office is asking Red River Trust, a Washington-based entity with offices in the Kansas City, Kansas, area, and an address at Grafton, North Dakota, to prove that it doesn’t violate anti-corporate farming laws, which would require it to sell land it purchased from owners of Campbell Farms of Grafton.
Red River Trust acquired six parcels of land near the borders of Minnesota and Canada in November that officials say may violate state corporate farming laws. The trust has been linked to Bill Gates.
