The Valle Catholic High School boys’ basketball team’s dream of playing in Springfield this week didn’t come true.
Campbell, a squad with more depth and overall scorers than Valle Catholic, downed the Warriors 68-61 in a Missouri State High School Activities Association Class 2 quarterfinal game on Friday here in Ste. Genevieve.
The Warriors finished the season with a 20-9 record; meanwhile, Campbell (23-4) will play Norwood at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Class 2 state semifinals at JQH Arena.
“Campbell finished some shots around the rim and seemed to have an answer on the offensive end most of the night,” Valle Catholic head coach Tyler Search said. “They are also good when they have a lead late in games.”

KANSAS CITY The Missouri Football Coaches Association in December released its list of award winners.
Four Valle Catholic High School players received the distinction of Class 3 all-state, with wide receiver Aiden Heberlie attaining first-team status.
Austin Burnett was selected as a second-team linebacker while Chase Fallert was named third-team quarterback and Kolten Naeger third-team kicker.
“Making all-state is hard to do,” said Valle Catholic head coach Judd Naeger. “Making it in Class 3 is even harder. All of these young men are truly deserving.”
While Ste. Genevieve didn’t produce any all-state players this year, the Dragons were still represented on other honor teams.

The Valle Catholic High School boys’ basketball team learned a valuable lesson from Friday night’s home game versus Park Hills Central.
That lesson?
It’s tough to overcome a slow start.
The Warriors were down 20-9 at the end of one quarter, and 36-20 at intermission, en route to a 72-59 loss.
Valle Catholic head coach Tyler Search admitted the slow start hurt the Warriors, who valiantly fought to cut Park Hills Central’s lead to single digits in the second half.
“We got it to a six-point deficit,” Search said. “We were where we wanted to be with six minutes left. We were in good position; but, it was just too hard to overcome against a good team. I am proud of our guys.”
