Johnson & Johnson One-Dose COVID Vaccines Available

Kathy Whyte/ WNBF News Early April 7,  over 500 appointments were available for clinics for the single-dose J&J shot at the SUNY Broome Ice Center Tuesday the 13 and Wednesday he 14 th.  Residents can reserve a spot by going to the county’s website www.gobroomecounty.com/hd/coronavirus/vaccine.  Those without access to internet or transportation can call 2-1-1 for assistance. A clinic for the J&J one-dose is being held in Chenango County April 8 from 2 to 5:30 p.m. at the Old Label Shopper at the South Plaza in Norwich. Eligible residents age 18 and older can register at www.co.chenango.ny.us/publ./nursing/covid19.php.

Blacklegged ticks and American dog ticks aren’t new to the greater Cortland area and surrounding areas and neither is Lyme disease. But the Asian Longhorned tick, an invasive species from East Asia, and the Lone Star tick, indigenous to the United States but found on Long Island, are getting closer. “Ticks don’t follow the calendar like people want them to follow the calendar,” said Glenn Reisweber, executive director of Lime Hollow Nature Center in Cortlandville. “Anything above 35 degrees is tick season, they’re out running around now.”

Broome Wants to Double COVID Shots Given at BCC Broome County is ramping up its operations for administering more COVID-19 vaccines in the next few weeks.  The County has added clinics for April 7, 9 and 12, announcing at 3 p.m. March 31 that it had 1,000 appointments. As of 5 a.m. April 1, 324 of those appointments had already been taken. Appointments can be reserved at gobroomecounty.com. Kathy Whyte/WNBF News  During the weekly COVID briefing March 31, County Health officials said they expected the number of doses being sent to the county to continue to increase.  1,170 of Pfizer vaccines are now being given typically in a week, and the county says it wants to double that number at the mass vaccination site at the SUNY Broome Ice Center.  Over the past week, Broome County has been hiring part-time workers to help with checking people in to the POD and entering data.
