‘Why did those people shoot me?’ Birmingham girl shot, recovering after mom stops to help motorists

It’s a question no parent should ever have to answer.
“It just kinda broke me down again,” said Katrina Grady, Kaitlynn’s mother. “She asked my husband. She didn’t say it to me because she knows how easily I cry.”
The 8-year-old West End Academy student and her family were caught in a drive-by shooting on Warrior Road Tuesday night when Grady, described by police as a Good Samaritan, stopped to help motorists she thought had wrecked on the sidewalk. A certified nursing assistant for 20 years, Grady said it’s something she has always done.
