An 8-year-old girl was seriously wounded in a shooting Tuesday, May 18, 2021, on Birmingham s Warrior Road.

An 8-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital late Tuesday night after she was wounded by gunfire on Birmingham’s west side.
Police initially said the girl’s injuries were life-threatening, but later said she is expected to be OK. She was shot in the arm, and suffered injuries to her head by shrapnel.
The shooting happened just after 9:30 p.m. at 1412 Warrior Road. The girl is being treated at Children’s of Alabama.

It’s a question no parent should ever have to answer.
“It just kinda broke me down again,” said Katrina Grady, Kaitlynn’s mother. “She asked my husband. She didn’t say it to me because she knows how easily I cry.”
The 8-year-old West End Academy student and her family were caught in a drive-by shooting on Warrior Road Tuesday night when Grady, described by police as a Good Samaritan, stopped to help motorists she thought had wrecked on the sidewalk. A certified nursing assistant for 20 years, Grady said it’s something she has always done.
