8-year-old girl shot in Birmingham drive-by when mom stopped to help wreck victim Updated 12:01 AM; Today 10:29 PM An 8-year-old girl was seriously wounded in a shooting Tuesday, May 18, 2021, on Birmingham s Warrior Road. Facebook Share An 8-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital late Tuesday night after she was wounded by gunfire on Birmingham’s west side. Police initially said the girl’s injuries were life-threatening, but later said she is expected to be OK. She was shot in the arm, and suffered injuries to her head by shrapnel. The shooting happened just after 9:30 p.m. at 1412 Warrior Road. The girl is being treated at Children’s of Alabama.

She didn’t say it to me because she knows how easily I cry.” The 8-year-old West End Academy student and her family were caught in a drive-by shooting on Warrior Road Tuesday night when Grady, described by police as a Good Samaritan, stopped to help motorists she thought had wrecked on the sidewalk. A certified nursing assistant for 20 years, Grady said it’s something she has always done.
