Degrees right now santa rosa in petaluma each at 34 degrees. So as you get out into the car may be warming up a couple extra minutes, i know that was rebeccas advice a few minutes ago, youre still some pretty easy going conditions on our roads and definitely no fog out there. Either yeah nothing in your way right now a lot of cars the visibility is great, its just a little bit cold of course youre see a crank up those car heaters for sure. The door right now though look at this its a nice a shot of bay bridge toll plaza approach. And this is our camera looking out across the macarthur maze here nothing in your way for westbound 80 your commute is going to be a straight shot in the San Francisco across the upper deck and its going to be a total drive time about 10 minutes over to the fremont street exit, switching things over now to the cemetery rich men rather the Richmond Center fell bridge now west bound 5. 80 looking great theres more cars on the roadway, the lefthand side of your screen that is the commute direction. But west bound 5. 80 remains problem free as you try to make your way up to the north bay total drive time right now standing at 7 minutes all have the san mateo bridge and the golden gate coming up in just a bit james darya thanks so its 6 oh one lets get to our top story this morning which is the fact that more than 2800 people died of coronavirus yesterday alone. Well set a new record of more than a 185,000 new Coronavirus Infections reported its hard its hard because its been dragging on and the months go by anything said they better. And its exactly the opposite its getting worse. Santa clara county is seeing record covid cases and hospitalizations and there are new outbreaks in Nursing Homes and long care facilities and large outbreaks at homeless shelters as well we have kron will tran live in san jose now to talk more about. All of this good morning. Well. That was the fear james in duryea that those places would come down with covid19 which is why the Health Department about 9 months ago they preemptively told those places how to take care of the people inside but even then we are seeing explosion in cases at the homeless shelters in exactly 2. Nursing homes that have over 200 cases as far as a homeless shelter, 56. People have come down with covid19 that includes obviously the people who who work there and the people who are staying there and then as far as the homeless shelters. We are talking the amber woods gardens nursing home that particular place has about a 150 cases and then another place which theyre not saying the name of thats another 86 cases over 200 at those 2 facilities alone and they say this is not even into deep into the woods as far as covid19 cases, the Health Department they are doing their very best to try to slow it down but theyre saying the reason why those particular facilities are seeing an explosion in cases. So many people are coming and going. Cases rise in the community. That also means that there are more cases they get introduced into these current settings more what we provide we provide testing resources. So we can identify everyone whos been infected. And we provide technical in terms of helping them. Identify of Infection Prevention measures that they can implement to prevent the spread. Okay, so lets continue to talk about the nursing centers, the people who did come down with covid19 the Staff Members they have been removed from those facilities so they have isolated that as far as some of the other people theyre doing their very best to try to treat them at this point were not hearing of any fatalities from those particular cases at the 3 facilities. But lets talk about the fatalities county wide. It is surreal james and your yulia sevices my camerawoman this morning and we were talking about we re here earlier this year when 2440 cases seen mind blowing. Now if youre waking up this morning in Santa Clara County, youre sitting at more than 36,600 cases over the past 9 months in close to 500 people died from covid19 and he probably will get even worse. Back to you unfortunately i think you may be right well, thank you very much for the update. The outbreaks in Santa Clara County are not limited to Nursing Homes covid cases are also being reported and juvenile detention facilities. Its the first outbreak in Santa Clara Countys Juvenile Hall and William F James ranch facilities. More than a dozen people, including youth and staff are infected. One deputy public defender believes the county has failed to keep incarcerated youth safe and says now is the time to release those in custody because of covid. Unless there is a demonstrated need to hold these in in custody, them they should be out because the facility has proven itself incapable of protecting them and keeping them healthy hes already vulnerable kids have been subject to this deadly virus. Santa clara countys adult jails have already experienced outbreaks and they have been releasing inmates to bring down the risk of transition transmission that San Mateo County Health Officials have seen a slow and steady rise in hospitalizations. Overall capacity right now is only about 70 but in anticipation of a surge in the coming weeks officials have moved some equipment from the San Mateo County event center to hospitals across the country or the cross the county i should say event center was set up months ago to treat patients if hospital so ran out of beds, but so far it hasnt needed to be used. Officials say they even have more options if the number of cases rises beyond current hospital capacity. In San Mateo County. Our capacity is great we can actually stand up. The national guard. We can actually use on 369 of that hospital which is seen hospital. All patients being treated in San Mateo County or local residents. But it is possible that additional patients could be brought in from other areas if needed. Well here are the latest local numbers as it relates to the coronavirus california has a state now has seen more than one 0. 2 million cases since the pandemic began with more than 19,000 deaths so far as for the bay area were looking at more than a 156,000 cases with more than 1900 people died from coronavirus 6 or 7 is the time and the bay area could be ringing in the new year with a new stay at home order because of the surge in coronavirus the governor says. That theyre going to be new rules. If hospital capacities and icy use or slammed for a room for patients. The stay at home order goes into effect by region. If there are fewer than 1515 if theyre less than 15 . Of hospital beds left in that region. Right now in the bay area. Weve got 25 of the beds are Still Available and icu so we havent reached that 15 threshold. But at this rate if we see these hospitalizations continue to increase the order could go into effect in the bay area by the end of this month. And it would last for 3 weeks when it happens. And it would mean many different businesses would close that have been opened so far and are open right now bars wineries hair salons barber shops. If the order comes those would all close retail would stay open, but they would be limited to 20 capacity cdc more lines at the stores that want to go to. And the big change would be restaurants. If this kicks in restaurants, you can only have take out so no more Outdoor Dining even. Once these new rules kick in. Business owners are sounding off on the possibility of this type of shut down we spoke with the manager of a day spa in downtown lafayette. She says the governors announcement is already confusing her clients. A lot of our clients. By canceling theyre trying to get in sooner before the closure happens. Countless businesses like this were first to close for months the first time around in the pandemic and remember theyre not closed yet. When and if that order comes though it will happen within 24 hours. Well the other big part of the stories that San Francisco leaders might actually act sooner than the state in banning Outdoor Dining might even come as soon as this weekend thats what some Restaurant Owners are hearing which means that today could be the last day you can enjoy eating outside we have kron 4 Sarah Stinson live in San Francisco now with the latest on the story, good morning sara. James weve been on edge all week weve been saying mayor london breed and Health Officials are going to have a big announcement theyre going to put more restrictions on the city on top of the purple to restrictions on top of whatever the governor says and were thinking today could be that day because thats a Restaurant Owners are hearing look at this restaurant here on union street you can see how much work they put into it they have christmas decorations. They have heat lamps in here, its covered rain or shine they would be prepared to see people here. However, no matter what the weather is they could just not have to be able to at all it could be banned on top of everything as we know the order hasnt been triggered get for San Francisco, the stay at home order by the governor that wont happen until we have 15 of the icu beds left thats expected to happen within the next week week or 2 thats what theyre predicting. However, Restaurant Owners say theyve been told by Industry Leaders that the city is planning to shut down dining before that by midnight tonight. So to today and tonight could be the last opportunity for people of course before 10 00pm to eat outdoors and for restaurants to utilize their outdoor seating boxes theyve spent thousands of dollars on the setups that restaurants have done have been so creative so to their just making sure that people feel comfortable because it has been chilly especially when the sun goes down Restaurant Owners tell us this is extremely frustrating to hear that it could be shut down before the stay at home order in goes in place. I mean its tough its so so tough to to put all that energy into building this winter ice parklet that we have over here were going to weigh all of options whether we close during the or we stick you know delivery options, but delivery options are really feasible for us. We have reached out to the Mayors Office to see if they are in fact going to shut down Outdoor Dining at midnight, but we have not heard back yet either way its looking not so good for Restaurant Owners theyre either going to have to shut down at midnight. Some time this weekend or within the next week from the governors stay at home order then they have to switch to take out, but as you just heard from that restaurant owner. Maybe theyll to shut down altogether. Reporting live in San Francisco Sarah Stinson kron 4 news right. And in the 60s for your daytime highs now today at the coast obviously some pretty Clear Conditions out there now that weve got a little brightness you can see that there really is any fog to talk about at the coastline near Half Moon Bay view is nice and clear so maybe youre going to head out to the ocean today in which case. You do need to know that we do have some advisories that have been extended into the afternoon today were continuing to see high swells and sneaker waves right along the shoreline, these swells are actually peaking during overnight hours and will gradually diminish the rest of the day today but do watch out for dangerous rip out there along the coastline advisories remain in effect until 03 00pm today. They were initially set to expire yesterday. So this is an extension of those dangerous conditions along the coast. Elsewhere in the bay area really nothing to know except sunshine 60s stuff, weve got used to lately futurecast shows you that we are going to be looking at dry skies, not just through the day today but on to the weekend tomorrow sunday remains dry but i am expecting a few more clouds to close out the weekend on sunday. High pressure is in place were staying mild or staying sunny with this highpressure youre going to notice some haze in place yet again today this High Pressure results and sinking in stagnant air and that has resulted in some smoggy conditions in parts of the bay area so less than ideal air quality thats one of the downsides of the High Pressure that we do have the downside of the dry conditions as of course the deepening drought that were in the midst your latest Drought Monitor just released yesterday shows you that extreme drought continues in red for the north bay and deepening severe drought for the rest of the bay area in orange. Now thats the downside of the dry skies. Obviously weve had great weather for all your errands in your yard work lately its 50s and 60s for your highs yet again across the bay area. Most of us today into the solid mid to upper 60s burlingame foster city and Mountain View each at 65 today. Well in the south bay. Well Fairfield Vacaville in santa rosa or 3 warmest spots each at 68. Next weekend, were actually looking at some 70s back in this forecast by monday and tuesday expect low 70s for your average highs it is going to be well above average for temperatures as we make our way into the second week of december 30s for your inland lows, 40s for your base citing coastal lows in these dry conditions and sunny skies. Not showing any sign of letting up any time soon. Rebecca. All right john thank you heading outside right now checking out to your commute. 4 and the San Francisco bay bridge of course its going to be nice out of the macarthur maze right now its going to be a quick trip only 11 minutes across the upper deck to the fremont street exit so that is a good commute for you things are getting more busy on the san mateo bridge but nothing in your way not slowing it down even though there are more cars and folks out there westbound 92 moves very well, nice and smooth out of the east bay over to the peninsula under 15 minutes to make your way from end to end and the Richmond Sandra fell bridge looking nice still lightly traveled 7 minutes as you make your way up to the north connect with one oh one on west bound 5. 80 and checking out your commute coming out of the not going to be a problem. Its going to be a smooth sailing coming out of nevado highway 37 all the way down to the pay gates, a 90 minute drive time on south one oh one checking out east bay commute so youre Livermore Valley commute looking good im not tracking any hot spots. No only 11 minutes coming out the livermore vasco area out to the dublin interchange ill have bridge checks and drive times coming up in just a bit back to the new saints are so we have some breaking news to tell you about from overnight look at these pictures a car crashes into a Doctors Office in San Francisco, this was at the gets well personalized pediatric sits on the corner batavia and union streets. This is video from the scene earlier this morning. Kron 4 Sarah Stinson was there captured so the imagery force you can see the car shattered. The window there destroyed the octavia street sign and a city bench, not clear if anybody was hurt. But we have reached out to the San Francisco Fire Department for more information well keep you updated as we learn more about what happens this is lucky. Im right. In National News the Supreme Court wants judges in california to re examine the states ban. On indoor worshiping yeah, this comes days after the 9 justices recently ruled in favor of churches and synagogues in new york. We have doug johnson with more on what this ruling now means for californias houses of worship. Todays Supreme Court order may not have been exactly what pasedena base Harvester Church what case against californias covid19 restrictions. It did not get the same ruling the court made in a similar case in new york state they said were not going to give you that were going to do is were going to send this case back to the court that at this and theyre going to have to decide whether in fact they grant order or not light of the decision that leading the professor of law Leslie Jacobs says the order could be seen as encouraging for the churchs case will require the lower courts here and probably other places to more of these. To look at our states order and the claim by harvest in light of what the Supreme Court said with regard to the new york or. Whoever jacobs points out the circumstances in new york and california are very different new york severely limited capacity at houses of worship across the board based on mapped out zones and in your case had evidence of discrimination against the Orthodox Jewish community there some evidence on the record statements and then also the way the lights were try that made the courts this looks like maybe youre treating religion specially. Jacob says californias tier system is much different from new yorks zone system. Because it adds explanations for each tier ever use in the order had it hears has offered reasons and arm will say. I was off and do exist. Plus jacobs says the court will also recognize californias warmer climate. I park service says i will point out california got so thats a little more possible to court reconsider but in the end jacob says that harvests rocks legal argument is a strong one base on the United States constitutions First Amendment claiming governor newsoms order is illegal. Because it treats churches differently from other nonreligious grou

Today rebeccas been talking some nicer conditions on roadways then i think we normally do see with a few exceptions one of those 2. 80 yeah thats right john just minor exceptions, its friday. So at least were seeing friday light traffic so that is the good news out there. But yeah. I am following a Traffic Alert that high causing some snags on southbound 2. 80 run it magdalena its an overturned big rig. So its been out there for quite some time because folks are trying to get thats a big rig. Good uprighted and onto a flatbed tow truck to get out of there. But in the meantime the 2 right lanes are tied up so try to take one oh one or all camino real in the meantime as your alternates those that really good right now. Another commute that looks great as euro. Drive into San Francisco, a lot of sunshine and its just beautiful lightly traveled of course friday light eightminute drive time for your westbound 80 right over to the fremont street exit across the upper deck also called the bridges coming up in just a bit james darya thanks a lot rebecca. Or top story this morning. We have more than 2800 people now dying of coronavirus yesterday alone and a new record of more than a 185,000 new coronavirus infections. Reporter and by all accounts, its going to be a way worse before it gets better and thats why we could see rollbacks drastic shut down Santa Clara County. Theyre seeing an increase in hospitalizations and outbreaks in Nursing Homes a homeless shelter big outbreak there 2 now becoming a problem more so than it was before kron fours will tran live in san jose. With more on the story will. James im in front of the Health Department and they were fearful of this they were talking about Nursing Homes and homeless shelters, 9, 8, months ago and that they were potential hot spots and unfortunately, their worst fears came true as far as those locations because they have seen dozens more than 200 cases of covid19 and thats just the latest numbers of course we get daily or weekly updates when covid19 far as the homeless shelter is concerned in Santa Clara County. Its the the Reception Center with approximately 50 cases of covid19 including people who stay there and work there and the excuse me the Nursing Centers, 2 of them in particular one we do know that they released the name. Its the amber woods gardens and that particular place has about a 150 covid19 cases with people who stay there as well as those who work and then another location theyre not releasing the name of that, but thats approximately 86. Cases at those at that particular location as well. So well over 200 cases in just 2 locations it could get even worse because according to the Health Department a lot of the workers are rotating from place to place. Cases rise in the community. That also means that there are more cases that get introduced into these current settings more what we provide we provide testing resources. So we can identify everyone whos been infected. And we provide technical in terms of helping them identify of Infection Prevention measures that they can implement to prevent the spread. So why theyre going place to place a lot of the workers because theyre so shortstaffed many nursing home said you might work at a place from monday through wednesday and then go to another facility and help out at that other facility, the Health Department they will step in and provide some of the workers that have been removed from the Nursing Centers because of covid19 for them to get their treatment overall in Santa Clara County this morning. Its around 36,600 cases in the past 9 months with close to 500 people who have died from covid19 it is a surreal experience for me to be here because its been months james and darya since ive been here and i remember being here in the first few weeks the first month or so when we were talking about how was when he was around 48. For 50 cases and now were talking 36,600 back to you. All right, thank you very much well. Incredible how things have exploded theyre also seeing a big outbreak as well in Santa Clara County. Reported at their juvenile detention facilities. They have outbreaks now at Santa Clara Countys juvenile hall. And William F James ranch facilities. More than a dozen people including youth and staff are infected. One deputy public defender believes the county has failed to keep incarcerated you safe. So they should be set free from custody. There is a demonstrated need to hold these in in custody, them they should be out because the facility has proven itself incapable of protecting them and keeping them healthy hes already vulnerable kids have been subject to this deadly virus. Santa clara countys adult jails have already had outbreaks and theyve been releasing inmates to bring down the risk of transmission. Well San Mateo County Health Officials have seen a slow but steady rise in hospitalizations overall capacity right now is at about but in anticipation of a surge coming in just a matter of weeks officials have moved some equipment from the San Mateo County event center to hospitals now across the county that event center you may remember was set up months ago to treat patients if hospital beds ran out. So far that hasnt been needed in Officials Say they even have more options if the number of cases rises beyond current Hospital Capacity. In San Mateo County. Our capacity is great we can actually stand up. The national guard. We can actually use on 369 of that hospital which is seen hospital. Theyre all patients being treated in San Mateo County or local residents. However, it is possible that additional patients could be brought in from other areas if needed. Well here are the latest coronavirus numbers for california and the bay area statewide we have more than one 0. 2 almost 1. 3 million confirmed cases so far with about 19 and a half 1000 people dying from it. In the bay area along were looking at more than a 156,000 cases with more than 1900 people dying from covid19 8 07 and that this all means the bay area could ring in the new year with a stay at home order. Like we havent seen since the pandemic began governor newsome just released the new rules. And what theyre going to do is watch for Hospital Capacity and that will kick in the stay at home orders depending on the region and the bay area, including model and santa cruz has become one of those regions. Trigger point is when you get down to just 15 . Hospital capacity in the icu when you just a 15 left right now the bay area weve got 25 in icu beds, so its not going to kick in here yet, but it could kick in for example in southern matter of you know a day for us if you look at the numbers and they play out the way they are going we could look at a stay at home order shut down by the end of this month and that would mean big changes and whats open and whats not so weve been used to bars wineries hair salons in all and the like then able to go into the barbershop know those will close and also about another huge change will be Outdoor Dining, wed go back to have and to just get takeout food and bring it home there be no more dining at restaurants and any sort when and if this kicks him james. Well San Francisco could actually jump the gun looks lihe San Francisco leaders, potentially could be acting sooner to clamp down then the state mandate in terms of banning Outdoor Dining a lot of Restaurant Owners that were hearing from say there rumor mill has that this weekend it could come down which means today might be the last day to enjoy eating outside crawford. Sarah stinson is live in San Francisco with more on what we know so far sarah. James yeah, its looking like San Francisco is going to beat the stay at home order to it in banning Outdoor Dining. If we still havent confirmed this with the Mayors Office but weve heard from Restaurant Owners that may think that its going to be tonight at midnight when outdoor banning gets Outdoor Dining gets banned, so this is something Restaurant Owners are really not looking forward to in fact theyre frustrated take a look at video just shot this morning. This is from the Marina District of San Francisco. I mean these restaurants went all out with on not only type of Outdoor Dining these boxes that they took up a parking spot. They have it ready for rain or shine they have heating lamps inside they have christmas decorations. I mean some of them even have themes that go with their restaurants types of food, so its just sad that they one through all this effort and its going to be banned. I mean you know its could be banned if the stay at home order gets triggered for San Francisco. But that just hasnt happened yet and again that wont happen until we have 15 of icu beds left thats expected to happen within the next week or 2, however Restaurant Owners say again theyve been told Industry Leaders the citys planning to shut down Outdoor Dining by midnight so today and tonight could be the last opportunity of course before 10 00pm people can eat outdoors until then well have to see if that actually becomes true. The setups that restaurants have done have been so creative so Restaurant Owners tell us the 6 stream lea frustrating. I mean its tough its so so tough to to put all their energy into building this winter ice parklet that we have over here were going to weigh all of our options whether we close during the or we stick you know delivery options, but delivery options are really feasible for us. Its been an extremely hard time for Restaurant Owners in for really any owner of any business in the bay area. Now ive been checking the mayors twitter nonstop just refreshing still no update. So well let you know when we hear something but it could be midnight tonight could be some time this weekend or well just wait for that stay at home order which again could go into effect sometime within the next week. Doctor colfax the citys. Health Department Director he says that. He believes this is something that we need to do to get ahead of the curve is basically a preemptive measure to make sure that we dont get down to that 15 left of icu beds so well have to see how this all goes down. James the front send it back to you. And its a waiting game to see when they make that call sarah thank you very much for the update. Well now to some breaking news from overnight a car crashes into a pediatricians office in San Francisco. It was at the gets well personalized pediatrics right there on the corner of octavia and union streets. This is video from the scene in fact it was kron 4 Sarah Stinson who was out there earlier this morning. And she recorded this for us and you can see a window was assign a city bench also destroyed as well at least one person was hurt. Thats what weve been able to confirm were still waiting for more details from San Francisco Fire Department officials on what exactly happened. Well keep you updated throughout the morning as more information comes in so stay tuned. A 12 time and still ahead the push from bay area leaders to make Public School educators a priority when it comes to being first in line to get a covid shot. And still ahead in the buzz, the 49 ers are added in arizona coach and am though is still mad at the way they were run out of town. In 15 right now looking at a nice friday and what looks to be a good weekend to yeah i think so weve got in the Weather Center has been tell us all morning long how its going to stay nice and just sort of cool in the afternoon with plenty of sunshine. Yeah, hey guys its a good forecast to get you still definitely a good chance to get used to it. Because weve been looking at these dry conditions in the 60s for a while now and were going to see plenty more of them in the days to head to today looking a lot like yesterday a little bit on the hazy side this morning. You notice that haze across the bay yesterday about something thats going to continue for a whole lot of the bay into the afternoon today skies will remain dry and for the most part, pretty clear and blue at the coastline today we do have a continuation of advisories as were seeing a high swell now swell at the coast did peak last night, those dangerous waves will gradually come into the afternoon, but we still do have the risk of sneaker waves as well as dangerous rip currents. Well till 03 00pm today, so if your plans involve heading to the coast today that is definitely something you want to know before you head out that direction now is keep an eye on the waves as you do make that walk on the beach futurecast showing clear skies across the region today into tomorrow as well. Im expecting a few clouds on sunday but by no means any chance of rain or mountain snow. We remain dry through the weekend and were going to stay that way into next week too. This unfortunately does mean deepening drought across the region Drought Monitor an updated look at it from yesterday shows you that we do have severe drought in this golden hue for the broader bay area and for the north bay, some extreme drought returning as we do look at these dry conditions now from the end of november all the way through this first week of december now todays daytime highs in the meantime well be in the 50s and 60s most of us in the 60s. The good news here is of course we do have the Good Shopping weather. Good weather for errands and just heading out into the backyard and enjoying some sunshine. Redwood city at 64 today, south bay daytime highs in the mid 60s while in the east bay also a range of what will mostly be mid 60s today, oakland and berkeley nice 64 for you guys today as for the north bay, vacaville and fairfield as well as santa rosa, some of our warmer spots each at 68 for todays daytime highs and a look ahead at your next 7 days shows that next week is likely starting even warmer monday and tuesday low 70s returning sunshine for those days for sure we will see an increase in offshore winds on sunday and monday now this is important because this will actually up fire danger weve been so dry now for so long you want to keep an eye on those days likely to see some advisories in effect early next week as those winds pick rebecca. All right john thank heading outside right now were checking out a hot spot that ive been following over the last couple of hours, its an overturned big rig on northbound 2 80 run at magdalene avenue. The 2 right lanes are still blocked as crews are trying to get off of the roadway for you. But it is backing up into cupertino so definitely avoid to 8 if you can instead take El Camino Real or you can always take a one oh one. Both in the northbound direction they run parallel to 2. 80 thats going to be your better bet this morning. A nice commute. Its been problem free all morning long as your commute into San Francisco, the bay bridge toll plaza approach thats great. The macarthur no problems to report out of oakland 9 minutes for your total trip across the upper deck and into San Francisco switching over to the san mateo bridge now its a nice smooth ride across the flat section the high rise. Im not seeing any issues there and its going to be under 15 minutes to make your way out of the east bay over to about one o one connector on the peninsula, there and its going to be a nice ride into the north bay 7 minutes. Exactly for your west bound 5. 80 ride from the tolls out to the north bay in connecting with one oh one and the Golden Gate Bridge looks great if you are going to be heading out of the north bay into the city, im not tracking any problems on the south one on one side in fact its about a 20 minute trip coming out of highway 37 nevado getting through moran and then finally on to the span into San Francisco of a couple of East Bay Drive times coming up in just a bit. In the buzz practice practice, the fortyniners got to it at their home away from home in arizona where they will host the bills on monday. Allow the players are getting acclimated to the desert the coach is clearly still peeved that Santa Clara County band contact sports. Without so much as a courtesy call. Like communication thats all know people treat each most human beings. So thats what were disappointed with and weve got to deal with the situation is like a lot of people are dealing with stuff not just. Transcripts For KRON KRON 4 News At 3pm 20240711

Start times but they all last through the new year and the hope is that this will keep local hospitals from getting overrun with patients. We have Team Coverage of this breaking news this afternoon across the bay area well find out what it means for each county and well start now with kron fours dan kerman he joins. With all the important details good afternoon. Dan. Good afternoon just in we were expecting some sort of order from several of the counties that we didnt know it would be exactly what the state had proposed and we didnt know 5 counties would go in together lets take a look and we go to some video we can show you exactly again which counties this impacts and again were talking about. Alameda county Contra Costa County marine county, San Francisco as well as Santa Clara County now what will be closed. The closures include hair salons and barbershops personal Care Services wineries and bars Outdoor Dining will be closed museums and zoos will be closed playgrounds will be closed and Fitness Centers and gyms will also close and again this will all happen in these counties in the next several days. In the dark over winter that we feared would come has arrived in the bay area. I and other county Health Officers in the bay area dont think we can wait for the states new restrictions to go into effect later this month. We must act as many lives as we can. This is an emergency. That is why were making temporary changes now to slow the virus and protect our community, particularly those at greatest risk of serious illness. Port because of covid19. This order goes into effect sunday evening at 10 00pm Alameda County it goes into effect monday morning at 12 oh 01 00am and those in moraine county have a little extra time this goes into effect tuesday at 12 noon again the whole idea here is that ice news are on the verge of getting overwhelmed, but theyre hoping to do is reduce interaction between people and us reduce the spread of covid19 less so hospitals in the bay area will not get overwhelmed. As we told you yesterday, San Francisco right now estimates that its ice use will be completely full by december 26th if nothing is done. Live in San Francisco. Dan kerman kron 4 news. Thank you dan, you may notice that some counties are not involved in this latest stay at home order that includes san mateo and solano counties even napa and sonoma but Solano County just put out the statement that reads in part to add orders on top of what the state has already issued restricts local businesses even further when they are not the cause of the spread in Solano County. So on a Public Health continues to monitor the situation closely with our local Hospital Partners and the state. Now in San Mateo County while they say they understand and appreciate the measures taken by the other bay area counties, san mateo well not at this time the issuing a new local stay at home order and will continue to work with businesses and Community Leaders on it he runs to the existing guidelines theyre also encouraging people to continue to stay distant from one another and wear a mask and also acknowledge that there is an increased rate of covid in San Mateo County you can read the full statement on our website kron 4 dot com. Now once again the shutdown order is going to have a major impact on Small Businesses can force marine cali is live for us now in the city of alameda she has reaction. Business owners just knew this was coming and just sooner than they expected us. Exactly just seen i am here in alameda in downtown out in front of ollies waffle shop you can see behind me. How there are patrons iin outside out that side dining allowed for now but obviously that is going to change come monday. Lets roll some video you can show you can see the tables theyve expanded into their back patio theyre more tables out there, but theyre going to have to be put away once this new order goes into effect. What happens here in Alameda County on monday morning. Theyre going to have to scale down at this restaurant to takeout and delivery only for the next month amid these new rules and its not just restaurants that are affected just around the corner from where im standing at sessions hair salon. Theyre going to have to shut down altogether right before the holidays, so thats a lot of appointments to cancel. Neither of these businesses are happy about whats happening. But their resolve to do what they have to do. Lyon on my book already like january. But if they have low of course i have the case though. I mean we only close it was already too now its closer in i dont know we can still buy for the business online. You know because we have to pay to rain. No tell my last penny is gone. The stores will be open. That may happen it may not but i will not win. In july no longer go anymore. Need to get up every day i will show up here whether its to go with delivery only thats what well do. We will make the best of it. Its decision. Is out of my hands. We have to follow what would be told whether we agree with it or not. We do it. The safety of our customers and our staff is the most important thing. And the owner of this restaurant said to me these asking people to basically pick their favorite Small Businesses and support them during this time. He says he to me this is something that hes doing even though his business is impacted to support his Small Businesses in his community to help them through this really difficult time reporting from alameda i morning kelly. From thank you so much marine will go now to Contra Costa County because Business Owners in martinez say they have long feared this winter shutdown because of the virus. And now its here caught for some to joins us live right now hes downtown where once again. Restaurants are downsizing their operations salons are closing up fleet. Whats the latest. Thats right just and it was just last month restaurants were allowed to increase their indoor capacity from 25, the 50 but it fell back down to no Indoor Dining once the county me back into the purple tier. A week later now an even bigger hit to their bottom line. Its a play it by thing it is very frightening i dont want to lose my business but you know i dont plan on losing it either at least the next 3 weeks Lesley Stiles says the elimination of Outdoor Dining will be she owns rocks on me and our team is using Indoor Service has already resulted in layoffs and now she has to focus on keeping her operation afloat i talked to my landlord yesterday and he agreed to use. Part of my deposit on the building for this decembers and the other the other part would be januarys rent if need be. So that gets me through february with just that one chunk of money that i dont have to put out retail establishments like at child furniture will be allowed to remain open that 20 capacity. With a metering system for customers walking in and out but manager Gwendolyn Monroe says when other businesses are limited or forced to shut down its bad for her shot to win first time the first shelter order. Our business. In april so we sold one dresser in april we made 325 in sales in our rent is 2000. So you cant operate like that and this will be the 3rd time during the pandemic citrus salon owner candice lee oddo says she will have to close up. Pierce allies cannot operate indoors or outdoors under the new order and the most blind sided by just the lack and the court and funding that there is where the businesses and 4. The staff member of theyre going to need help and we yesterday. And that really is the concern for all of these businesses they support protecting the public from potentially spreading the virus. But without a stimulus package in sight. They just dont know really how theyre going to move forward live in martinez felecia ball from 4 news. Thank you so much fully from the situation is the same in the south bay. Theyre also going to have to be doing some shut down south the hospitals have already fallen below the 15 capacity threshold that would have triggered a lockdown there kron fours rob fladeboe joins us now live from san jose with more on whats happening in Santa Clara County good afternoon rob. Justine is a fairly grim picture here in the south bay. The new lockdown that takes effect on sunday evening and not a minute too soon. Well a Medical Center here in shadows in other hospitals across the system now are filling up fast and they are in danger of being a of reaching capacity being overwhelmed. Lets take a look at the video hardest hit would be hospitals in east san jose. It in southern reaches of the county. We learned today that the yesterday alone 67 people were admitted across the system with covid19 that is an alltime record. The Hospital System now at just 14 of capacity and falling fast. 15 was the level that the state had put down for the new lockdown to take effect. The number of people in the hospital here with covid19 has tripled in 2 months. Just a couple of months ago, you recall we reported that were under a 100 people in the hospital now there are over 300. We simply cannot afford to wait any longer says Public Health officer doctor sara cody. And that is that it takes at least 3 weeks for our actions could impact the trend in hospitalizations at least 3 weeks its a very long lead time. So we must apply the brakes at least 3 weeks. Or we will run out of the needed icu and Hospital Capacity to care for everyone who needs care. And in our county and were already a little bit behind and not his way. It is so critical that we have this regional action. More grim still doctor cody says that the metrics are starting to show part of this recent surges as a result of thanksgiving Holiday Travel and they expect the numbers to get worse before they get better again the lockdown here in Santa Clara County. Begins on sunday evening live in san jose rob fladeboe kron 4 news. Thank you so much rob and we have much more coverage on the new restrictions throughout the hour right here on kron 4 and kron 4 dot com is a great resource right now with lists of what will be closing and when for each county involved. Much more ahead here at 3 oclock including what one School District in the north bay is doing to ensure students and teachers are safe. When they return for the new year. Plus its not the first time that the u. S. Has had to quickly roll out a brand new vaccine. Well take a look back at 2009 when the h one n one flu pandemic was taking over and the challenges that can men with trying to get people vaccinated. And after the break some parents in the east bay are just fed up with Distance Learning and theyre calling on the berkeley School District to take action now. Lets go to the north our faculty and students and one marine School District all receive coronavirus test today the district is hoping to test everyone before in person classes resume next week. Kron fours Charles Clifford is live for us now in corte madera he has the details good afternoon, jack. And there you have a large for quarter madeira School District has tested thousands of people today at 2 different locations, including sentiment park right behind me here that actually just wrapped up their testing. And this is all an effort to get kids back into the classroom starting on monday. Most Elementary Schools in marin county have resumed in person classes on a limited basis doing a combination of Distance Learning with a few hours of classroom instruction per day the high schools are still doing Distance Learning only. The larkspur corte madera School District has had a limited in person classes for several months. But for the week after thanksgiving the district switched back to Distance Learning only. The idea was that if anyone contracted coronavirus while traveling for thanksgiving. They would have a week to see if any symptoms developed before returning to the classroom next week the district is having all of its faculty tested and as encourage students to get tested as well for parents to return to Distance Learning was not ideal. But they understand ive talked to a lot of parents and its just stressful. The kids dont really enjoy being on zoom calls but again were all in it together is doing what we can do the results from fridays tests are expected to be released over the weekend. All right back live now the district also has to make a decision about whether or not theyll have a extra week off. After the winter and theyre hoping to have that decision made by december 11th. But for now in the north bay Charles Clifford kron 4 news. Thank you so much struck. And kron 4 is always tracking local stories, heres a look at whats going on in your neighborhood right now keep it in the north bay police in sandra fell are searching for 2 people after an Armed Robbery at a 7. 11 this is new video now it happened on november 30th around 3 in the morning at the 7. 11 and medway road. The armed suspects confronted the clerk likely one had a gun. And police say they stole cash from the register watching that happen right here. The 2 suspects then left the store in a getaway car and detectives learned that the suspects stole a gold 2000 honda crv with the license plate of 4 m m h 2, 7, 3, in the city of albany, several hours prior to the robbery. So if you recognize that car or the suspects or have any information youre asked to contact the sandra fell police department. Now have you seen this man, Nevada Police are looking for him in connection to a watch theft that happened earlier this week. Officials say the victim met the man at the gold rush jewelers tuesday afternoon to sell him. A rolex watch valued at over 50,000 after inspecting the watch the suspect ran out of the store they say where Police Believe that he got away in a black acura suv police are asking if this guy looks familiar to you or if you have any information give them a call immediately. A peeping tom is wanted for recording women in Public Restrooms in valais help we have a picture of the Person Police are looking for and at least 2 incidents women reported seeing a cellphone slip underneath the partition of their bathroom stall before the suspect got away. This photo is of the suspect was taken on tuesday during that second incident right before he got away so if he looks familiar. You know what to do. Well switch gears now and talk about our Weather Forecast as we take a live look outside at San Franciscos International Airport showing us what the situation is happening in the skies there meteorologist Mabrisa Rodriguez is here now with a look at our very dry december. Yeah, a record ryan is for us here in the bay area because of the lack of rain in fact the should be the start of our wet season, but overall a pretty grim outlook live look outside though a lot more sunshine compared to yesterday around this time so were anywhere from about one to 7 degrees warmer. And we are tracking overall mild temperatures as you head out the door mid 60s for downtown San Francisco. San jose flirting with 70s at 68 degrees with widespread mid 60s for the east bay shoreline oakland and berkeley at 66 degrees but in the low 70s for fairfield in pittsburgh. So about 10 degrees above average there with nap at 67 degrees in santa rosa, currently 69 degrees as you step outside its a great way to wrap up your workweek forecast for your friday afternoon radar though tracking very dry conditions but we do have a slight chance of light scattered showers making its way into the north bay possibly by around saturday night through your sunday morning could see some light drizzle for parts of the bay area mainly along the coast, but overall looking like a very dry outlook in fact, one of the driest decembers on record 20th percentile range for the north bay valleys and even the east bay valleys as well and that fire danger threat could be at the moderate to high level starting sunday night through monday with the return of gusty offshore winds and as you can see monday afternoon could even see widespread 70s more coming up in my full forecast in just a few minutes justine back to you thank you so much for lets go to the east bay now and frustrated parents are calling on the berkeley unified School District to let their students returned to class. As soon as the Public Health officer says that its safe to do so kron fours has minute has the story now. Distance learning is a cause of growing frustration for some parents of students in the berkeley unified School District over 300 parents have signed this petition calling the reopening the berkeley public schools. Like we need to Work Together and understand each other and move forward to what i believe is a common goal of teaching and learning in person. Jameela done as a parent of a 7 yearold Berkeley Elementary School student she describes what concerns her most about a childs Distance Learning experience. Its so fresh ing not to mention the fact that what might it actually needs the most is to learn how to interact with other kids so im actually less worried about him academically than i am socially at this point he is reluctant to leave the house. You know thats not normal. From the beginning of the pandemic outside of a select number of Elementary School students receiving in person support for Distance Learning the vast majority of Berkeley Students have not returned to the classroom, even though some parents say the opportunity was there back in october with the city was in a less restrictive tier for covid19 i want for clean fight to prepare for reopening so that as soon as the Health Officer says its safe to reopen our kids are back campus. We reached out to the School District and the Mayors Office for statements we received no reply. On saturday berkeley parents will gather for a reopen our schools rally 10 00am at mlk park. Has it made you kron 4 news. In a historic vote today. The u. S. House of representatives approved a bill to federally legalized marijuana what will change. Details are ahead. And after the break learning from the past as the world waits for Covid Vaccine will see what worked and what didnt during the h one n one vaccination distribution. Hi, im pat and im 75 years old. This is not the first time states across the u. S. Have had to quickly roll out a brand new vaccine. This process has some doctors looking back now at the 2009 h one n one flu pandemic and the challenges that they faced then and trying to get people vaccinated rachel scott has the story. A lot of the challenges was rolling out the covid19 vaccine or similar to what health care with the h one n one flu vaccine. Supply issues delays one big difference. Now im told covid is a much greater and more urgent threat. The idea that history repeats itself lots of similarities to were dealing with now is an often applied to a Global Pandemic lasted about that is so strange strange that around this time in 2009 people like doctor Michelle Barron were navigating the h one n one flu vaccine.
