Female prisoners are making an emotional plea to be treated like humans , complaining they re finding it difficult to access medical care behind bars and waiting for months to be seen by a doctor.
The medical system in place has been condemned by two women currently locked up at Auckland Region Women s Corrections Facility (ARWCF) in letters supplied to Newshub.
It comes after the mistreatment of female prisoners was put under the spotlight after two women were gassed in their cells and forced to perform a humiliating ritual to be fed.

A legal expert says he is disappointed the Corrections Minister won t acknowledge a judge s finding that treatment of Auckland Women s Prison inmates was degrading, cruel and inhumane.
As a boy, Rue-Jade Morgan was given shandy and made to wear a dog collar and got used to seeing his alcoholic, drug-addicted mother lying on the floor in a bruised pulp. As a teen, Morgan was told he wasn’t crying properly so banged his head against the wall so hard that he gave himself trauma which affects his speech to this day, and was given only newspaper to wipe up the blood.
