Local authorities are expected to be handed powers to hike charges when properties are not either regularly used or let out by their owners for at least 70 days per year.
Six new affordable homes are being built on the Lizard Peninsula - and now is the time for local people to register an interest. People with a strong connection to the Grade Ruan parish are encouraged to take a look at the new homes in Ruan Minor, which will be available for secure affordable rent from this spring. There will be four one-bedroom flats for two people and two two-bedroom houses for four people. All of the homes, which are being built by the Community Land Trust, overseen by a local committee, will be available on a priority basis to local people from Grade Ruan parish, or with a strong connection to the local area.
