No. 13 Delaware cruised against Towson, 16-8, a surprisingly decisive victory in a CAA that’s recently been defined by close slugfests. The Blue Hens’ (9-2, 6-1 CAA) 16 goals against the Tigers (6-7, 3-4 CAA) were the most in the series against Towson since April 10, 1999. Cam Acchione scored five goals on five shots, Mike Robinson had a hat trick on four shots, and Charlie Kitchen (2G, 4A) and Tye Kurtz (2G, 3A) combined for seven assists. Matt Kilkeary tied a career-high with 13 saves. Delaware started with a 4-1 run, then broke the game open by holding Towson scoreless for the entire second quarter and going on a 5-0 run in the third.

In a meeting of two of the top teams in the NEC, Saint Joe’s left no doubt, winning 13-5. Zach Cole went 20-of-22 at the face-off X, surpassing 400 wins on his career, and Evan Campbell (3G, 2A) led Hawk scoring. Saint Joe’s as decisive from start to finish, moving into sole possession of first place in the NEC at 6-0 (6-3 overall). That was a well-earned victory over a very good lacrosse team, said coach Taylor Wray. Sunday Men s DI Roundup: Villanova, Duke Handle Road Tests; Bucknell Cruises in Opener

Villanova consistently had an answer in an 11-8 Big East win at Providence. Eric Overbay (3G, 3A) had a career day, Keegan Khan played at his consistently great level (3G, 2A), and Will Vitton (16 saves) was sharp and helped hold off Providence spurts. Two goals in the opening four minutes, from Patrick Daly and Khan, put Villanova on the map with an efficient start. Vitton played well early, with five saves in the opening frame, keeping the two teams neck and neck. Providence got one back after Vitton stopped an outside shot, but in a scrum in front of the net Matt Leader knocked it in.
