Celebration for freedom. Now, a national holiday, juneteenth is the direct result of centuries of resistance and revolution by black people leading a fight for their liberation. In 1861, tension between the north and the south reached its Breaking Point over slavery and statehood, and The Civil War began. On january 1, 1863, as the nation approached its third year of The Civil War, president Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, declaring that all people held as slaves within the confederate controlled states were now free. The proclamation also granted black men access into a struggling union army. By the end of the war, more than 200,000 black soldiers, known as the United States colored troops, had enlisted, becoming instrumental to the unions victory. The civil war officially ended in april of 1865, but it wasnt until june 19th of that year, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, that thousands of colored troops arrived in galveston texas, to read general or

At the windy white house there, as it relates to what were hearing from the Treasury Secretary, and from cnbc language, to Plain English here, what it means. Well, its significant because the Treasury Secretary is saying that as of early june, the federal government wont be able to pay its bills anymore. Its allowed by congress to borrow up to 31 trillion and change, but its going to hit that number next thursday. After that point, treasury is going to be looking under couch cushions to try to finds some additional money. It will be pinching pennies. And it says it will stop contributing or investing into some federal workers retirement accounts, to try to conserve some of that cash in order to avoid reaching that debt limit, or not being able to pay for allies and adversaries that hold the u. Is he going to take our issues seriously . People felt he wasnt black enough. Mccains crowds turned uglier. The discussion of race in this campaign has taken a particularly divisive turn. This is not a man who sees america the way that you and i see america. Okay, youre rolling. You obviously put a lot of thought into the decision to do this. Have you given thought to when youre successful, what would you want people to say about how america was different than the day you walked in the door . I dont think that were going to solve all our problems in eight years or ten years. One of the things about life, both for each of us and for the country as a whole, is that there are always going to be new challenges. There are always going to be new difficulties.
