A nonprofit is ready to expand a little more than a year after starting up.
There is a business boom happening in Cape Coral, and Cape Coral Animal Shelter is a prime example. It’s asking the city for more room.
When Jack Bowman adopted his dog, Tasha, from the shelter, it was love at first sight.
“Saw a picture of her and came over to look at her and took her home with me,” Bowman said. “I am a widow, so she’s everything to me. I’ve got a lot of grandkids, but she’s the one that’s home with me all the time.”

The shelter said the decision was made due to the overwhelming demand for low-cost veterinary care.
To support the shelter and to provide a service to the community, CCAS opened its low-cost veterinary clinic in August. With the pandemic still in full swing, the clinic said gearing up to meet the demand was not without challenges.
“It took us a while to get all the people and systems in place” Executive Director Liz McCauley said. “We are still receiving hundreds of calls a week, but we have added additional administrative and veterinary staff to handle the demand. We’re ready to go full steam ahead six days a week.”
