journalists show emotion in the wake of a terrible tragedy like this? well, journalists are not robots, and if you are describing on the air thoughter of 19 the slaughter of 19 children and 2 of their teachers and you don t feel something and you don t catch a lump in your throat, then maybe you don t have a pulse. we re humans, that s okay. if it crosses a line into performance i m i m not alleging that here that s another question. i get the sadness, the human compassion, the anger when you find out there s officers standing outside this locked door for an hour or so while the kids are begging for help inside with phone calls and such, i think that that is understandable. i would say, and you briefly alluded to this in the last segment, howie, that one thing that we in the media can do and i try to do it on the radio, it s your policy as well here on this show, there is data that suggests there s a copycat effect when we sort of
involved in the life of a young person. what are some of the things that you lay out? we lay out over 30 different solutions, things we can do as individuals, as institutions and then at the societal level. so things from early childhood screening to building crisis intervention teams in schools, training ourselves in suicide prevention to tackling online radicalization and holding social media companies accountable for the hate on their platform and of course the incredible easy access to firearms where a kid can go out on his 18th birthday and buy an assault rifle. dr. peterson, is there a copycat effect to all of this? we only have 30 seconds left together. tell me how worried you are that there s buffalo and then uvalde. what next? there s a social contagion aspect to this.
amount of attention that this horrible tragedy has received, i always note that there is a concern about copycats and i have heard of a few attempts anyway. his law enforcement talking about that? any kind of stuff like that, the copycat effect? they are not outright talking about it. i m sure there s probably some language that they are using to sort of prevent that. i don t really hear them using the suspect s name or using the photo a lot when going into detail about that. that is something that we are conscious on out here to not glorify the person who is allegedly responsible for this. but that is always a concern when something like this happens, especially when you talk about people who might be mentally unstable. harold: jeff, we really appreciate the hard work and the good reporting. keep it up. coming up next, democrats and the media accused of rushing to politicize this tragedy in texas.
