COOSA COUNTY, Ala. (WSFA) - The Coosa County Sheriffâs Office in Rockford has made history, and more than 400 school children couldnât be more pleased.
Thereâs a new sheriff in town, though Michael Howell is still the âtop dogâ in law enforcement. Itâll be a 15-month-old, 72 pound German shepherd that will be running the new K-9 division, the first-ever for the county sheriffâs office.
âA new journey for the sheriffâs office,â Howell stated.

Coosa County Authorities have recovered the body of a drowning victim at Lake Martin. Authorities say 20 year old Vazquez Saavedra of Mississippi was the victim. Sheriff Howell said dispatch received the call just after 1:00PM Thursday. The body was recovered around 5 o’clock Friday evening. COOSA COUNTY, Ala. (WSFA) - Divers at Lake Martin have found the body of the man who authorities believe drowned at Lake Martin.
The Coosa County Sheriffâs Office says they got a call around 1:30 p.m. Thursday saying someone appeared to have drowned. The sheriffâs office, plus multiple other agencies, responded to the Parker Creek area of Lake Martin to search for the victim. This area is about about 10 miles southwest of Alexander City.

The Coosa County Sheriff’s Office is working a possible drowning at Lake Martin.
Coosa County Sheriff Michael Howell said they are looking for a male victim in his 20s in the area of Turkey Trot Trail near Equality.
Sheriff Howell said dispatch received the call just after 1:00PM Thursday.
