Work of Swadhinata Sarak to be completed by March: Tajul

DHAKA, Feb 25, 2021 (BSS) – Local Government, Rural Development and Co-Operatives (LGRD) Minister Md Tajul Islam today said the construction work of historic Mujibnagar-Kolkata “Swadhinata Sarak” will be completed by first week of March.
The minister said this while presiding over the first meeting of an inter-ministerial sub-committee on ‘Golden Jubilee of the War of Liberation’ at the conference room of Local Government Department here.
LGRD Minister Tajul Islam said the government has decided to construct the historic Swadhinata Sarak connecting Mujibnagar in Bangladesh’s Meherpur to India’s Nadia district for enriching the history, heritage of the War of Liberation and Mujibnagar government.

DHAKA, Jan 31, 2021 (BSS) – LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Tajul Islam has said the incumbent government is working hard to strengthen the local government system by empowering all the institutions under the Local Government Department including union parishads, municipalities and upazila parishads.
The minister was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of ‘Union Parishad-UP Training Modules’ and the first e-learning course organized by the National Local Government Institute-(NILG) at a hotel in the capital on Saturday, said a press release here today.
Referring NIGL as an important institution, the minister said that local representatives from all over the country received training from this institute.
Municipal councils must focus on increasing income: Tajul

DHAKA, Jan 17, 2021 (BSS) – Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam today said the municipal councils must focus on increasing income or face dissolution as the government plans to change the law to this end.
“City corporations and Paurashava follow their own laws. They must take responsibility for generating and increasing their revenue as per their laws. If they fail to pay the salary of their staff for 12 months, we are planning for their dissolution,” he said.
“This is not believable that the inhabitants of paurashava cannot pay tax,” Tajul said while addressing a National Policy Dialogue on ‘Strengthening the Urban Local Governments in Bangladesh’ at a city hotel here, a UNDP release said.
