Fatima’s comeback just ran out of time. The No. 3 seed Comets cut what was once a 16-point deficit in the second half all the way to one, but ran out of time to finish it off as the No. 2 seed Father Tolton Trailblazers escaped with a 45-40 win in the Class 4 District 9 semifinals Thursday night.
The Fatima Comets were trying to hold the ball for the final 48 seconds of regulation Wednesday. At best, they were hoping for a buzzer-beating win. At worst, the game would go into overtime. Then Desmond White brought a new worst-case scenario into the picture for the Comets.
Back and forth the teams went, neither taking momentum until a Brysan Jeffries block. Jeffries’ block jump started a 17-2 Blair Oaks run on the way to a Falcons’ 73-64 win Tuesday against the Fatima Comets.
