Subscriber only House hunters looking for a bargain in the Gympie region should turn their attention to the Cooloola Coast, with Cooloola Cove ranked as one of the 20 best markets for home buyers in Queensland. A new report from Aussie Home Loans and online property hub CoreLogic has revealed the coastal town, nestled between Tin Can Bay and Rainbow Beach, had among the highest volume of stock on the market, at 13 per cent. It ranked 14th among the 20 best Queensland buyers markets, a list topped by Russell Island (19.3 per cent), Palmview (18.3 per cent) and Kooralbyn (18.1 per cent). Cooloola Cove had 49 listings on the market in December 2020. This was less than half the number on the market in 2019 (102); a drop felt state-wide where stock levels across the board hit at least 10 year lows .
Bay residents were left stranded in the middle of sweltering heat on December 2, after multiple burst pipes cut the town’s water supply that morning. The water supply was later restored hours earlier than expected.
In last week’s workshop and councillor briefing at the Town Hall it was confirmed there had been a “series of mains breaks” in the water network 0n and after that date, all “within the high zone, with the majority around the commercial area of Dolphin Avenue and Gympie Road”. The Gympie Council is scrambling to bring back a regular maintenance program to help stem the flow of Tin Can Bay water main failures.
Tin Can Bay residents could soon be able to take a stroll along a foreshore with plans to build a 426m boardwalk as part of a 14km link between the town and Cooloola Cove.
Gympie Regional Council has lodged a development application to construct the 3m wide boardwalk, which requires approval from the State Governmentâs environment department as it will be built near a tidal area.
This second stage of the walkway will stretch from Crab Creek to Norman Point and include not only the boardwalk, but directional signs, seating, shade and viewing points.
The State Government has provided $1.66 million of the $1.98 million budget for this stage of the coastal path.
Deserted road entering Tin Can Bay
Some people agreed that slow drivers were a menace, while others suggested speeding drivers who tailgated were an even bigger danger. Others said creating more overtaking lanes on Tin Can Bay Road would be the best solution.
When we put the question to Gympie Times followers, they too were divided.
Some suggested the speed limit needed to be reduced at certain points along the way but others were all too familiar with the situation of getting stuck behind a slow driver who seems to speed up on a straight stretch of road where overtaking would be possible.
