Livingstone mayor reacts to federal budget

While the council had no formal “wishlist” of projects they wanted to see, Cr Ireland was happy to see certain projects receive funding, as well as the commitment to certain social programs. “We’re happy with the results from the budget, particularly with the fact that the Building Better Regions funding is being continued, and we’re very appreciative for the $13 million for the Cooee Bay pool complex,” Cr Ireland said.

Premium Content Subscriber only A woman who started using drugs when she was 14 after her mother died but recently quit using drugs while living with her father and stepmother was warned against moving interstate with a friend. Rebecca Dawn Hurley, 28, pleaded guilty on April 22 in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to four counts of possessing a dangerous drug, two of possessing drug utensils and one of possessing a restricted item. Police prosecutor Sergeant Darrell Dalton said police searched a vehicle, suspected of being lived out of, at Cooee Bay on January 4 at 10.30pm. He said Hurley told police she had a bong in the car.

Major coast road upgrade revealed as part of fire recovery

Premium Content Subscriber only Byfield National Park will be more resilient to future bushfires after receiving a $495,000 boost, as part of $10.7 million in bushfire recovery projects announced Friday by the Australian and Queensland governments. In 2019, the Cobraball bushfire burnt across the Capricorn Coast, engulfing 12,100 hectares of land including 15 homes, 38 sheds, 8,500 hectares of grazing land and 275 hectares of horticultural production land. Federal Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry said the fourth and final round of Local Economic Recovery projects was a joint investment of $36.8 million to support recovery in Queensland communities hit hard by the 2019-20 bushfires. Ms Landry said the 21 projects funded across Queensland included an exciting project in Capricornia.
