Vermont fugitive arrested in Conway

CONWAY — After two Taser deployments and a wrestling match, Conway police took into custody Wednesday night a 19-year-old alleged Vermont fugitive accused of shooting a man in the back at a St. Johnsbury birthday party in 2019. Arther Butler, 19, of Topsham, Vt., was charged with arrest without a warrant (fugitive), which Conway Police Chief Chris Mattei says is an administrative charge used in such cases. Out of Vermont he was charged with aggravated assault and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The charges from Vermont carry possible five- and 15-year prison sentences, respectively.  Butler is accused of shooting and wounding Brandon Delude, 24, during a dispute at a birthday party in St. Johnsbury, Vt., in April of 2019.

CONWAY — Carroll County Attorney Michaela Andruzzi on Tuesday filed charges of special felony aggravated felonious sexual assault and misdemeanor sexual assault against a Jackson teen. The Conway Police Department log from Feb. 26-March 1 shows that Riley Hayes, 18, of Jackson was charged with felonious sexual assault when the victim was physically helpless and that the age difference between Hayes and the alleged victim is less than three years. The log indicates Hayes was arrested at the Conway Police Station on Feb. 26 just before 4 p.m. Carroll County Superior Court paperwork shows Hayes turned 18 the day before the arrest, and the date of alleged offense was Oct. 17, 2020. Hayes was released on personal recognizance.
