[ applause ] i m going to continue to do the work on behalf of the fifth because you all send me to washington to do the important work of progressing our country. so, congressman, she started to focus on the important work that was necessary on health care, on minimum wage. what should your fellow democrats be doing? should they stay on this messaging and defend her? or should they take her lead and move on and focus on the topics? obviously any time the president says something racist, we are going to defend whomever he attacks. but representative omar is absolutely correct. we need to remain focused. we passed the minimum wage bill yesterday. very proud about that. it had been a long time since the bill had been increased. it s amazing for me to think about when i was sacking groceries in fort worth, texas, at $3.05 an hour.
attorney when he got an order from the president because he was so convinced that it was illegal. so kind of things need to be drawn out i think in the eyes of at least the democrats in the committee. but as they try to draw those out, and you mentioned the democrats. if the democrats comply with a desire to stay within the confines of this 448-page report, can they address the issue of alleged misconduct? yeah. what they have to do is understand that bob mueller is not going to do their jobs for them. so this is something we ve kind of had a crash course in as americans try to figure out why does the president get away with stuff? it says that our system says the executive branch doesn t indict itself. he is of course also the chief executive, right? so it s up to the congress to decide if they want to go beyond what mueller found into a judgment call. now we just had a vote this past week. this hearing could raise that number or theoretically it could lower that number if mueller
we appreciate you spending your time with us. that was colorado governor john hickenlooper. a big week coming up for democrats on the hill. former special counsel robert mueller will testify publicly before two house committees next wednesday. he ll spend three hours before the judiciary committee before testifying another two hours before the house intelligence committee. the special counsel has already made clear what he plans to say in front of congress. the report is my testimony. i would not provide information beyond that which is already public in any appearance before congress. but democrats say their goal next week is to shed light on president trump s alleged misconduct, documented in mueller s 448-page report. as one democratic staffer tells nbc news, what s important there is truly shocking evidence of criminal misconduct by the president, not once but again and again and again that would result in any other american being criminally charged in a
oh, by the way, it seems like they hate america. is this all about 2020 for him? because he did speak explicitly about political strategy. well, certainly. i think that s the case. and what was interesting to me, morgan, was the way the president tried to stake out this rhetorical argument when we reporters made clear to him that these four congresswomen weren t trashing the company, they were being critical about him and his policies. he says, well, that s fine, they can say that, they have first amendment rights. but you can t talk about your country that way. so it was interesting to hear him conflate himself with the entire country. but to your point, is he going to continue this through 2020? certainly. we certainly know that he feels emboldened by a number of things, first that the democratic resolution to impeach him failed. he talked about that explicitly and also the fact that he believes this is a winning argument even as republicans, members of his own party are pushing ba
