psychologist says he knew the difference between right and wrong when he shot and killed his girlfriend. the first witness today, the surgeon who actually amputated pistorius legs when he was a baby. hello, everyone, i m ashleigh banfield. it is monday, june 30th. welcome to legal view. it is the perfect political storm. a trifecta of sex, religion freedoms and obamacare. just moments ago, the supreme court handed down its opinion in the highly anticipated case of burrwell versus hobby lobby. you ve probably heard it as hobby lobby. but what it ended up being was a 5-4 ruling that allows some companies to opt out of that part of the afordable care act that requires companies to cover the cost of contraception, some contracepti contraception, for their employees. joining me to talk about the impact is cnn s justice correspondent pamela brown, cnn legal analyst jeffrey toobin and an attorney from the beckett found, a public interest law
and the emergency contracepti contraceptions, your morning after pill, because they re not opposed to what is traditional contracepti contraception, correct? that is correct. i don t think that the religious freedom restoration act is going to fall. what i think will happen is that they will work out a compromise where if there are women, employees, who want one of those four contraceptions, government can pay for it. government s done it before when it interferes on religious rights. they can do it. they ve done it with the military. the bottom line is these women have a right to their choice of contraception. but at the same time, you have to weigh that against religion freedom. it is complicated to say the least. thanks for discussing it with us. so what do americans, germans and brazilians have in common? while a body in motion tends to stay in motion.
imagine being the exchange between the president and the pope on that? oh, i would imagine that pope francis, because he had just met with some students from los angeles who were suffering because of immigration deportations. i am sure he raised that issue because these were young people who broke his heart, i m sure. and pointing out the need to make a comprehensive fix to our broken system right now. i m sure it was at the heart of the conversation. father, you know, surely the president is trying to actually have some political effect in these kinds of meetings, hoping that, you know, this will show some more conservatives in washington that he can sit down with someone who he disagrees with on issues like abofrgs, contracepti contraception, these kinds of things, and still find areas of agreement. i think that s true, but i also think in a sense, the president has to meet with the president and the pope has to meet with the president.
justice, income equality, the rights of the individual, democracy. if all that sounds very familiar, those are the exact same values that president obama has been es spouzing throughout this trip in dealing with the situation in ukraine. so it seems doubtless that that will also come up, what should be the way going forward. obviously the pope has also been watching that situation. he always plays a role in whatever the topic is going on of the day. both men have expressed some of those same values in their policies. it s not to say that the catholic church and president obama agree on all things. president obama did win the catholic vote in 2008, but they disagree on fundamentals like contracepti contraception, providing that. that s a big topic of debate
little better on the radio show than you said at the rnc meeting. i still used the word libido i don t think anything is wrong with that. women have it, men have it. you put it in the terms of control, that women need the government in order to control their libidos. and that sounded to many you were placing a judgment on it. first of all, you acknowledge the vast majority of people, the adults in this country have libidos and act on them, and the vast majority of people use birth control when they desire not to have a baby as a result of those instincts, and are you casting any judgment on that? the use of birth control, by couples have intercourse, who are not looking to have a baby. my pushback was not about n contracepti
