ATLANTA Things remained calm and quiet throughout the day at the Georgia State Capitol on Sunday with only three different groups arriving around 2 p.m. to cause law enforcement to be on alert.
Law enforcement and the National Guard were on duty throughout the country with threats of potential violence at all 50 state capitols looming. A heavy security presence in Atlanta represented the seriousness in which those threats were taken, even as armed men guarded the statue of Martin Luther King Jr. at the capitol.
Concern was especially high in Georgia, where unfounded allegations of election fraud and pleas from President Donald Trump to overturn the results were followed by the Democratic sweep of hotly contested Senate runoffs.
