Georgia Capitol Protest: Demonstrations small, quiet amid threats

ATLANTA Things remained calm and quiet throughout the day at the Georgia State Capitol on Sunday with only three different groups arriving around 2 p.m. to cause law enforcement to be on alert. Law enforcement and the National Guard were on duty throughout the country with threats of potential violence at all 50 state capitols looming. A heavy security presence in Atlanta represented the seriousness in which those threats were taken, even as armed men guarded the statue of Martin Luther King Jr. at the capitol.  Concern was especially high in Georgia, where unfounded allegations of election fraud and pleas from President Donald Trump to overturn the results were followed by the Democratic sweep of hotly contested Senate runoffs.

Wharf Cat Records drops Savannah musician Jeff Zagers after appearance at Capitol attack Adriana Iris Boatwright Savannah musician Jeff Zagers was dropped by the record label, Wharf Cat Records, after the musician posted about taking part in the attempted insurrection at the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C. last week. The label posted a statement on its Twitter account Sunday about Zagers involvement in the riot, saying “we were shocked, disappointed, angered, and saddened to learn that an artist we worked with in the past attended the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6th. “As a label, we strive to promote equity and inclusivity in our community and do not tolerate voices of hate or acts of violence. We would never knowingly work with anyone who supports the events of January 6th or any part of the movement that enacted this attack on the U.S. Capitol, and are actively taking the artist’s releases down.”

That Bloody Crossroads

Fort Worth Weekly Weathers performed for Trump in addition to dozens of active and retired troops. Photo by Steve Watkins. Jeff Zagers should have seen it coming. Bragging on social media that you’re part of a protest fueled by lies and that ends in death is bound to result in some sort of clapback. The Georgian musician and avowed Trumper should not have been surprised when Brooklyn label Wharf Cat Records promptly dropped him and washed their catalog of two of his albums. You can bet the right-wing commentariat sees this move as yet another example of political correctness and cancel culture gone crazy.
