In California in the late 19th century, for example, public health departments used to wrongfully accuse Asians of spreading diseases such as leprosy and malaria in their communities. These problems, both then and now, stem from hateful, misinformed rhetoric. But with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, those attacks have become alarmingly more prevalent.
