NEW DELHI: The Budget discussion in Rajya Sabha witnessed dramatic moments with Congress members storming the well soon after junior finance minister Anurag Thakur sought to extrapolate on the use of “andolanjivi” by a Congress MP for Mahatma Gandhi to ask if the father of the nation was a “shadiantrakari” (conspirator).
Thakur’s remarks came after Congress’s K C Venugopal, while participating in the discussion on the Budget, referred to PM Modi’s use of “andolanjivi” for protesters. Stressing on the importance of ‘andolans’, he said the country got freedom from the British through ‘andolans’ and went on to say that by that logic, Mahatma Gandhi should have been the biggest “andolanjivi”.
