Magnitude 3.1 earthquake shakes Concord

A magnitude 3.1 quake rattled Concord on Thursday afternoon.
The United States Geological Survey detected the quake at 4:48 p.m. with an epicenter 0.7 miles from Concord, 2.4 miles from Pleasant Hill and 15 miles from Berkeley.
With a magnitude of 3.1 and depth of 9.32 miles, this quake could be felt near the epicenter but damage to structures is unlikely.
Many East Bay residents reported feeling a small shake in in social media.
The quake struck on the Concord-Green Valley Fault. The Concord Fault maybe connected to the Greenville Fault through a complex set of faults under Mount Diablo, including the Mount Diablo Thrust, according to the USGS. The Concord Fault may also be connected to the northern Calaveras Fault through a complex set of faults south of Walnut Creek.

CONCORD, CA A magnitude 3.o earthquake struck the Concord area Thursday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The quake hit at 4:48 p.m. Thursday with the epicenter in Concord, in the vicinity north of Cowell Road and west of Galindo Street.
Initially recorded as a 3.1-magnitude, Thursday s earthquake was felt in Concord, Pleasant Hill, Martinez, Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Antioch, Alamo, Moraga, Orinda, Danville, Benicia, Crockett, Clayton and Pittsburg.

A 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck Concord one week ago on Thursday, Jan. 15. Prior to that, a 2.7-magnitude quake rattled Concord on Jan. 5, the USGS reported.

As many as 285 quakes could be felt in Solano over past year
The county Office of Emergency Services said there were no reports of damage in the area.
Small temblors are nothing new for the area, and many go unfelt.
According to the United States Geological Survey, Fairfield has had two quakes in about a three-day period, five in the past eight days, 33 over the past 31 days and in the past year, the area has been rattled by 285 quakes.
Temblor rumbles along Concord-Green Valley Fault
GREEN VALLEY An earthquake that measured magnitude 3.6 shook Thursday along the Concord-Green Valley Fault near Concord.
The quake occurred at 11:18 a.m. at a depth of nearly 9.45 miles and was centered 1.4 miles from Concord and 14.5 miles from Vallejo, the U.S. Geological Survey reports.
The Green Valley Fault in Solano County is a direct continuation of the Concord Fault north of the Carquinez Strait.
Officials estimate that the last major surface-rupturing earthquake along the Concord-Green Valley Fault occurred between 200 and 500 years ago, the U.S. Geological Survey reports.
There’s an estimated 4% chance that a magnitude 6.7 or larger earthquake will occur along the Concord-Green Valley Fault by 2033, according to the 2003 Working Group for California Earthquake Probability.
