Photo by David Cabrera In 2008, Crocs had a big problem. The Colorado-based footwear brand was only six years old and experiencing a huge dip in sales. In 2003 the company did $1.2 million in sales, which catapulted to $850 million in 2007. But after years of exponential growth, sales dropped in 2008 by 15 percent to $722 million, and the company posted a $185 million loss.  A mix of things contributed to the downturn. Crocs had a team of executives with no experience in footwear or fashion its then-CEO Ron Snyder was a former exec at Flextronics, an electronic contract manufacturing firm. And because of that, they didn’t have a handle on production and fulfillment. They would make too much product and have to deal with excess inventory. Or they wouldn’t fulfill store orders in a timely manner. The product assortment also got too big, going from 25 styles in 2006 to 250 in 2007. But one of its main issues was perception. While brand awareness around Crocs was high, young peopl

Despite being successful and innovative rappers, Rowdy and Bobby s personas have taken on a life of their own due largely to the way they handled the charges thrown at them. Instead of folding on each other when the feds started throwing football numbers at them, Bobby reportedly took more time so that Rowdy wouldn t have to be in jail longer. I did it for Rowdy. They offered me five and offered Rowdy 12,  Bobby previously said in 2016. This impressed Thug

Masai Ujiri Brings HUMANITY Athleisure Capsule to Harry Rosen

Image via Publicist Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri is dishing menswear retailer Harry Rosen a big juicy assist in making the Canadian style industry “more equitable.” The pair recently announced HUMANITY, a collaboration capsule benefiting the Black Youth Helpline charity and making way for more BIPOC designers in the Canadian menswear retailer’s roster. The athleisure collection features seven pieces designed by Ujiri, with help from Canadian designer Patrick Assaraf. Several of the items, including both tees and a hoodie, bear the word “Humanity” written in Ujiri’s hand.  This year we have been consumed by the twin pandemics of COVID and racism. No one expects a T-shirt to change the world, but each of us committing to look at one other as human beings and really see the humanity in everyone is a good start. See the word. Have the conversation. Really talk to each other. Remember that ou

Best Clothing Brands of 2020: Top Fashion Brand of the Year

Image via Complex Original Given COVID-19, the Black Lives Matter Movement, and the 2020 United States presidential election, there were times this year when apparel, sneakers, and consumption felt frivolous. But following the abhorrent murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and so many others, we saw a different side of the fashion industry. It’s hard to tell whether or not this will be a trend or a lasting consideration, but it was good to know that at least people are thinking about the racial disparities Black people face every day.
