Today public defender released the findings of this two year study, a criminal justice think tank. Researchers analyzed 10,000 cases and found black defendants face 60 more felony charges than those who are white. And defendants of color also face tougher sentences and they wait longer in custody. The public defender pointed the finger today at San Francisco police who initially recommend charges after an arrest and District Attorneys Office which decides whether to move forward with the case. Today the public defenderrers office looked at a case of Leslie Elliott charged with mayhem for spilling coffee on another woman during a dispute.
