Commute. Giant generators were brought into the caldecott tunnel, a major traffic route in the east bay. Caltrans had to figure out how to keep the tunnel lights and fans on or face a traffic nightmare. The tunnels themselves have a very large fans that circulate to make sure that the exhaust from the cars are actually taken out of the tunnels. Caltrans first thought some of the four tunnels would need to be shut down but bringing in those generators may have fixed the problem. The lantos tunnel on highway one new pacifica is open. Caltrans brought in more generators there at double slide. Thousands of commuters use that tunnel on the san mateo coast every day. That is some good news.
