Public Works Operations Director Sharon Lipsh said along with having challenges filling mechanic positions other positions are proving difficult to hire, too, including in the Streets Department.
The GFPD applied for the grant, which will help cover the cost of the additional officers’ salaries, in June. The salaries will be split between the federal government and the city.
Teri Hammarback, the co-president of the Heritage Village Foundation, said the nonprofit has just finished paying $27,000 in special assessments for another project on 20th Street Northeast. Hammarback said the special assessments for proposed work on Fifth Avenue Northeast will create additional burdens for the organization.
Some of the reasons City Engineer Steve Emery said that could be attributed to the higher cost of the HAWK System is the availability and pricing of the needed materials. Emery said timing could also be a factor in the higher price.
