Temperatures are expected to top 120 degrees in some places. 116 in phoenix, arizona, where excessive heat killed 84 people last year. Health officials are warning people to stay hydrated and if possible indoors. Extreme heat is adding to the struggle to contain several major wildfires in the west. Near santa barbara, california, a wildfire continues to threaten about 270 homes. Fire officials are hoping the winds dont get stronger overnight. In central new mexico a huge fire has destroyed at least two dozen homes. The National Guard has been called in to prevent looting in evacuated neighborhoods.
