DAKOTA COUNTY, MN A noxious weed called Common Teasel was confirmed to be in Dakota County in 2020, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture said in a news release Monday.
The agency said it s the first time the weed was confirmed in the county.
According to the MDA, Common Teasal is a short-lived perennial with a spiny flower and seed head. It prefers sunny and open habitats, such as pastures or roadsides.

It is considered a noxious weed because it outcompetes and takes resources away from natural foliage, which reduces potential habitats, wildlife forage, and overall species diversity. Grazing animal species will not eat Common Teasal.
