Cyclone Tauktae: INS Kochi arrives in Mumbai with rescuees from Barge P305 ANI | Updated: May 19, 2021 15:15 IST
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 19 (ANI): The Indian Navy Ship Kochi on Wednesday arrived in Mumbai along with the rescued personnel from Barge P305 which sank 35 nautical miles from Mumbai due to cyclonic storm Tauktae.
A total of 184 people have been rescued so far and as many as 14 dead bodies have been recovered from the Arabian Sea after Barge P305 sank off the Mumbai coast. The search and rescue operations are still going on. Had inputs that Barge P305 was in distress, approx 35-40 miles from Mumbai. The ship sailed under very difficult conditions, the storm was just passing west of Mumbai. As we arrived on the scene we took charge of the situation, Commanding Officer of INS Kochi Captain Sachin Sequeira said.

Mumbai: After leading a massive search operation, INS Kochi returned to Mumbai on Wednesday morning with 125 survivors of the barge mishap, who looked visibly jaded and worn out after the trauma of being adrift in turbulent waters buffeted by high velocity winds and zero visibility.

Twenty-two bodies have been recovered and 53 are still missing from Barge P-305 after it sank 35 nautical miles (NM) off Mumbai coast due to cyclone Tauktae.
“INS Kochi has returned to Mumbai harbour with 186 rescued from the barge, two rescued from a tug Varaprada as well the 22 bodies. Search and Rescue effort continues for the remaining personnel,” a Navy spokesperson said on Wednesday.
