Coordinator of Literacy Development Sharis Wilson says volunteers must be at least 18 years old, have a GED or high school equivalency, and complete the required training. For learners, she says the college has switched literacy assessment tests, so students who took the test in the past are encouraged to try the new one. The City of Fairfield and Wayne County Board are working to address issues at the Wayne County Humane Society and have formed a task force to work on restoring service. Mayor Mike Dreith tabbed Alderman Tyler Lampley for the group, and County Board Chairman Bruce Reeves will nominate Amy Pollard. Officials say they are worried about the future of the Humane Society shelter on the city's south side; Mayor Dreith says they appreciate the society's service, but they have a personnel problem, which prevents law enforcement from dropping off dogs and cats. 42-year-old Cisne resident Tammy J. Surprenant was arrested by Wayne County deputies Tuesday night after a drug investigation. Surprenant was charged with delivery of methamphetamine and was taken to the Wayne County Jail, pending the setting and posting of bond.
