Beaver County to consider new juvenile detention center

BEAVER County officials want to explore their options for housing juveniles.  Beaver County Board of Commissioners Chairman Dan Camp plans to open dialogue with the county s prison board, juvenile probation and courts to discuss potentially building a new juvenile detention center near the county jail in Hopewell Township.  We have a space down near the jail and want to see if it s OK if I shoot an email to everybody to see if we can start discussing the costs before we really take the bull by the horns, Camp said. Beaver County reassessment won t bring windfall

How much more Beaver County property owners will pay in taxes after a court-ordered reassessment won t just be based on the new value of their home.  During Tuesday s State of the County Breakfast, Beaver County Board of Commissioners Chairman Dan Camp balked at the notion that local governments will be rolling in riches because of the reassessment. He said that there won t be a windfall of revenue to municipal, school district and county coffers after the first property reassessment in 40 years in Beaver County. Anti-windfall legislation restricts how much more tax revenue a government can receive after a reassessment.  Following a reassessment, a taxing body can only see a 10% increase in revenue without adjusting its tax rate. When pressed by moderator Jon Delano, Camp couldn t say whether or not Beaver County would adjust its tax rate to not receive the approximately $6 million it could potentially receive in tax revenue.
