A technological blunder left nearly three-quarters of Beaver County voting precincts with incorrect election results for nearly a week following November s hotly contested presidential election.
In total, a combined 2,000 votes for President Joe Biden and then-President Donald Trump disappeared and reappeared from vote tallies.
Corrections to the county s official results online were only made after a Times investigation brought the errors to the attention of now-retired county election Director Dorene Mandity. It was human error, I guess my human error, Mandity told the Times. When I went in to upload the new results, I loaded the backup file. Then, when I did that again, it didn t carry over the new results so I wasn t loading to the file with the most current results.
BEAVER After two years of no local options, homeless men in Beaver County will soon have a place to lay their heads at night.
The Cornerstone of Beaver County, a nonprofit based in Beaver Falls, received more than $1 million in funding to help buy a building off of Drug and Alcohol Services of Beaver Valley and convert it into a 24-hour men s emergency shelter. We’re truly honored to work with the county on this milestone development that will ensure that men in need of safe, emergency housing and supportive services can access it right here in their own community, said Marie Timpano, executive director of the organization. We’re also excited to work with our Beaver County Continuum of Care partners to empower shelter participants to secure and maintain stable, permanent housing, independence, and ultimately, a future of hope and possibilities.”

Outgoing Interior Secretary David Bernhardt and his illegally serving Bureau of Land Management (BLM) director William Perry Pendley will go down in history as the worst stewards of our nationâs public lands. The past four years have seen an unrelenting assault on the environment as Bernhardt and Pendley sought to overturn key environmental laws and deregulate activities of the oil, gas, mining and livestock industries on the public resources they exploit.
Americaâs wild horses and burros were not spared. Pendley famously called wild horses an âexistential threatâ to public lands, an absurd claim that laid the groundwork for his plan to round up 90,000 wild horses and burros over the next five years. The plan would decimate wild herds and cost taxpayers nearly $1 billion in its initial phase alone.
All counties are not created equal, at least not when it comes to vaccine distribution.
The number of doses of COVID-19 vaccine distributed county-to-county varies widely across the state, according to a USA Today network analysis of the first eight weeks of vaccine distribution data provided by the state.
Department of Health Senior Advisor Lindsey Mauldin stressed last week that equity is important when it comes to distributing vaccine. It s important to remember that the Pennsylvania Department of Health is responsible for 66 counties, Maudlin said. We have to maintain equity across those counties.
But that isn t happening.
The median number of vaccine doses received by 65 counties not including the highest and lowest recipients is 1,138 doses per 10,0000 residents. That includes all vaccine sent to medical centers, doctors offices, independent pharmacies and through the Retail Pharmacy Partnership that makes shots accessible to the public at various grocery
