River North Transit LLC, a subsidiary of Via Transportation, will help SCAT implement its new vision for public transportation that will link county services with the ride-share company.
County commissioners are taking a step toward solidifying a taxing district to generate dedicated funding for mental health services.
With a 4-1 vote last week, commissioners authorized a June public hearing on an ordinance to create the district. If approved, the district would be funded by general ad valorem tax revenue.
Commissioner Mike Moran first proposed a special taxing district in early 2020, but a ballot initiative planned for the November 2020 election was pulled over uncertainties connected to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now commissioners are considering a dependent special district, which does not require a referendum. Under the plan, the County Commission could serve as the governing body over the spending or appoint a group to oversee the work.

On Monday, the commission voted 3-2 to reject a request to partner with the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County on construction of live-work space for artists at 4644 N. Tamiami Trail. The Arts Alliance is negotiating with Sarasota County to use the site, which county officials are trying to sell to aid the development of affordable housing.

And yes, that was Ziegler again, two days later, in Washington, D.C., near the United States Capitol, at President Trump’s rally promulgating an unsubstantiated voter fraud conspiracy theory that resulted in an insurrection as well as his second impeachment.
Meanwhile, back in Sarasota, where taxpayers are paying Ziegler’s $87,451 salary .
“Low stock, high demand.”
Here’s the question: Why was Ziegler in Georgia, supporting Sen. Kelly Loeffler, who announced she was going to object to the Electoral College’s certification of Joe Biden as president, and then in D.C. at Trump’s rally later that week?
