New Delhi, Jan 15 : The ninth round of talks between protesting farmer organisations and Union ministers to end the deadlock on agriculture laws are underway at Vigyan Bhavan in Delhi. Meanwhile, when it was time for lunch, a langar was sent by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee for the farmer leaders.
Mixed vegetables, rice, roti, tea, biscuits and moong dal ka halwa were sent by the committee.
Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Railway, Commerce and Food Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of State for Commerce Som Prakash are in discussion with representatives of 41 farmer organisations at Vigyan Bhavan here. This meeting is considered very important as eight rounds of conversation were inconclusive.

Ahead of the talks between the Centre and the protesting farmers scheduled for Friday, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has said that the government is ready to consider any proposal other than withdrawing three new agricultural laws. However, one of the main demands from the central government of farmers is to withdraw the new agricultural laws.

There was, however, no agreement on the two other key demands - chalking out modalities of repealing the three legislation and giving a legal guarantee on the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Farmers, most of them from Punjab and Haryana, want the new farm laws scrapped.
The sixth round of talks between the Central government’s representatives and farm leaders concluded on December 30 with the two sides arriving at a consensus on two of the four demands raised by the protesting farmers.
There was, however, no agreement on the two other demands - chalking out modalities of repealing the three legislation and giving a legal guarantee on the Minimum Support Price (MSP). The two issues are expected to be taken up in the next round of talks scheduled on January 4.

Today marked the conclusion of the sixth round of talks between the Centre and representatives of farmers unions, with the government conceding on two of the four demands raised by the protesting farmers.
The Indian government on December 30 exempted the farmers from being penalised under the Commission for the Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas Ordinance, 2020 for stubble burning. In addition, the Modi government has decided to withdraw the Electricity Amendment Bill 2020, while refusing to agree to the other two demands of repealing the three anti-farm laws and ensuring the farmers of a legally binding minimum support price (MSP)
