Man found dead in car with son still beside him in Bayan Lepas

BALIK PULAU: A 43-year-old man was found dead in his car, with his 10-year-old son still seated next to him in Bayan Lepas here on Saturday (Jan 16). Balik Pulau OCPD Supt A. Anbalagan said police were alerted at about 10am by the public who found the victim motionless in the car. Bayan Lepas assemblyman Azrul Mahathir Aziz, who rushed to the scene after hearing about the incident, said passers-by helped the 10-year-old boy. The public consoled the boy who was in shock and helped to call his mother, he said. Supt A. Anbalagan said the wife of the deceased told police that the man had gone out with his son earlier in the morning to transport some things from their current residence in Bukit Gedung to their new house in the Sungai Nibong area.

Restaurateur called in by cops over communist themed wallpaper

Owners of communist-style decor restaurant escorted by their lawyers in Penang. ZHAFARAN NASIB/The Star GEORGE TOWN: Police have questioned a restaurant owner for decorating his two premises with wallpaper containing elements of communist ideology. The owner, whose restaurants are located at Jalan Icon City in Bukit Mertajam and in Pulau Tikus on the island, landed himself in trouble after photos of his communist-themed premises went viral on social media. There was a wallpaper which featured caricatures of Chinese Revolution leader Mao Tse-Tung, a soldier holding a red book and a group of Chinese army personnel. Police also seized four small cups bearing the face of Mao Tse-Tung.

Alleged cat killer remanded by Seberang Jaya police

BUKIT MERTAJAM: The woman who allegedly bludgeoned a pregnant cat to death for defecating in front of her flat will be remanded until Dec 31 to facilitate police investigations, say the police. Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Shafee Samad said a four-day remand order had been obtained from the magistrate court in Bukit Mertajam. The woman, a 51-year-old broker, is said to have used a steel rod to clobber the cat and a kitten. She was detained at her flat in Seberang Jaya here where she apparently hit both cats on Tuesday (Dec 29) at about 1.20pm. ACP Shafee said a witness was at the scene on that day and saw the woman grumbling about cats defecating in front of her flat, before taking the rod from her car to attack them.
