[laughter] that was a really, really hard to 20 seconds for me. so thank you for cutting it short. it s amazing to be here in my hometown of new york city. i ve got some family here. so, tonight, we re gonna talk about democracy. and that we re in, we ve probably talked more about democracy in the last, you know, for five years than i had in all of my time as a journalist before that, i would say. like, even that is a topic seems a littl
but how? like i want you to get real brass taxes. yeah. process, like where does this seed come of, like, the random anecdote, like that is the start of the thing? it s you re reading all the time or you follow some set of well, in general, it s good to read all the time. right. the one thing i always tell people in our business is if there s one piece of advice i could impart to you, well, if you re a female person who s coming to, first of all, never show your emotions, no one will understand. but otherwise, male or female [ laughter ] good talk. still true, hello. but in general for everybody, read beyond the assigned reading. like, whatever the assigned reading is what s going on in the news cycle, read beyond that, like just you never know what s going to be relevant. read stuff that interests you that is nonfiction and that is journalism and that is history and that is academic work that
ranch. calling our neighborhood out, since last saturday before the floods started. they said hey you might have to do a, a voluntary evacuation. so, whoelt time they have been telling us, voluntary evacuation for the past come of, come of dates, couple of hours. even today, too. and then, justen a matter of a second, they changed it to a mandatory evacuation. in a maerlt of a second. because me and my dad. we expected that we would be able to stay upstairs. then suddenly told us no you have how to get out of the house. you lad to get out right away without any warning. yes. right. we had how to. how many people were there. was it your family? there? our entire family. when we got out. like the water just started to seep into our house. we got out. all our neighbors were out there. evacuating together. my neighbor, neighbor, took a rope, and about like, then it was like 15 people. tied each other with ropes. all tied on a represent together. walking in a line together. so w
