The idea inspired Henderson to start a Facebook group called Live Happy, Healthy and Kind and find things she could share to help inform, uplift and inspire the community. We wanted to start sharing with the community and encouraging them to live happy and healthy, and we were like, a little free library is a great way to do that, Henderson said.
The idea picked up steam quickly, and when the library was unveiled Thursday, Shalimar Mayor Mark Franks was there show his appreciation to the Hendersons and other volunteers who helped make it happen. The more books in or near the home, the more likely a child will learn and love to read, Franks said.
