TALLAHASSEE, Florida – Florida State’s bullpen allowed just one run over 8.1 innings Tuesday, but Jacksonville’s earned a 5-4 win after a first-inning grand slam at Dick Howser Stadium. A solo home run for the Dolphins in the fifth inning proved to be the game-winner.
Down 4-0, Andrew Armstrong came in relief and pitched a career high 4.1 innings, allowing just one run and striking out a career-high six.
Brennen Oxford and Doug Kirkland each pitched 2.0 innings; Oxford struck out five batters, while Kirkland struck out the side in the eighth and faced the minimum.
At the plate, Florida State out-hit the Dolphins, 10-7, with six doubles. Jaime Ferrer led the way with three hits – including a pair of doubles and an RBI single in the ninth inning to provide the final margin. He extended his hitting streak to 19 games, the longest for a Seminole in nearly 10 years.

CORAL GABLES, Florida – Sophomore pitcher Conner Whittaker made his first career start Saturday, pitching 5.0 innings with five strikeouts in Florida State’s 3-2 loss at No. 23 Miami. Whittaker became the ninth different Seminole pitcher to start a game this season, and the seventh of those to make his first career start. The sophomore from Sarasota allowed a two-run double in the second inning to get the Hurricanes on the board. Relief pitcher Andrew Armstrong pitched a career-high 3.0 innings, allowing a solo home run to start the seventh inning. Florida State had five hits, two coming in the eighth inning when Titan Kamaka doubled and scored on Colton Vincent’s two-out single. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia – On the strength of a six-run seventh inning, No. 8 Virginia clinched the series against Florida State with a 12-4 win Saturday afternoon. Left fielder James Tibbs III hit his team-high eighth home run of the season in the loss, and Jaime Ferrer extended his hitting streak to 14 games.
For the second straight game, FSU scored a run in the first inning, this time on a two-out RBI single from Treyton Rank. Tibbs scored after a double and moved to third on Ferrer’s infield single.
The Cavaliers tied it in the bottom of the inning against Ryan Denison when Ethan Anderson singled to score Jake Gelof with two outs.
Carson Montgomery (0-2) made his first relief appearance of the season, entering in the second with runners on second and third with one out. With two outs, the Cavaliers tried to score on a ball that got away from Colton Vincent, but Vincent tossed to Montgomery at the plate, who applied the tag before Anthony Stephan could touch the plate.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia – No. 8 Virginia scored unearned runs in the bottom of the ninth and 10th innings Friday to beat Florida State, 3-2, in front of 3,006 fans at Disharoon Park. Virginia improved to 14-0 at home with the victory.
Starting pitcher Jackson Baumeister allowed just one run in 5.0 innings, while the FSU relievers did not allow an earned run in 4.2 innings.
FSU led for the first half of the game after DeAmez Ross led off with a walk and scored on Ben Barrett’s groundout. After the Cavaliers tied it in the sixth inning, FSU was working out of trouble for the back half of the game. Andrew Armstrong faced the bases loaded with no outs in the eighth inning when he got a strikeout and a double play to keep the game tied.
Treyton Rank doubled with one out in the ninth inning to give FSU runners at second and third. McGwire Holbrook pinch hit and reached on a fielder error by the third baseman to score Nander De Sedas and give FSU the lead.

TALLAHASSEE, Florida – Making his first career start, Wyatt Crowell struck out a career-high 10 batters over 6.0 innings as Florida State (11-3, 2-0 ACC) clinched its series with Pitt (7-8, 0-2) with a 5-3 win Saturday in front of a sell-out crowd of 6,300 at Dick Howser Stadium.
Crowell (3-0) allowed three hits in six shutout innings, lowering his season ERA to 0.87. His 10 strikeouts are the most for a Seminole this season, and the junior became the fourth Nole to earn his first career start on the mound this season, joining freshmen Ben Barrett and Jamie Arnold and junior David Barrett.
After retiring Buster Posey’s jersey in a pregame ceremony – just the fourth in program history – the Seminoles raced out to a 4-0 lead after an inning of work. Titan Kamaka and James Tibbs III walked, followed by a Jaime Ferrer RBI single; a Jordan Carrion RBI double; and a two-run Cam Smith single.
