CATSKILL Barbara Caldera of Earlton, a retired Army lieutenant colonel who served as a nurse in the Vietnam War, has been selected by the Greene County Legislature to receive the Senior Citizen of the Year Award.
Duncan MacPherson of Freehold, who among his many volunteer endeavors assisted parents of deployed military personnel, was selected to receive the Outstanding Contribution by a Senior Citizen Award. Anne Heim of Leeds was named to a Certificate of Merit.
The trio will received their awards during a ceremony at the next Greene County Legislature meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 19 at 411 Main St., Catskill.

COLONIE - Kelly Mateja, a longtime advocate for senior citizens and public service, is running for supervisor as a Democrat.
This is Mateja s first run for elected office. She lives in South Colonie with her husband and three teenage children. Supervisor Paula Mahan, who was the first Democrat to be elected to the seat in 70 years when she was won in 2008, announced in January she would not run again. No Republican or other party candidate has yet announced a campaign.
