Led by an 80 per cent female team, comprising project engineers, site engineers, construction workers, contract administrators and site administrators, the project delivering at least 117 local jobs. Following International Women’s Day, Education Minister John Gardner visited the site to view progress and recognise the contribution of large female workforce working on the project. “The Marshall Liberal Government is focused on creating jobs to keep South Australia safe and strong in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, and our record-breaking $1.3 billion investment in education infrastructure is delivering thousands of construction jobs at a crucial time for our economy,” said Minister Gardner.

South Australia’s new planning system will update the guidelines for State Heritage Areas (SHA), including those specific to Colonel Light Gardens. Under these reforms, State Heritage protections will be strengthened, with the role of the Heritage Minister elevated in the development assessment process. There will also be a new Overlay to protect SHAs, including Colonel Light Gardens. This Overlay ensures that development within Colonel Light Gardens is managed in a way that maintains the garden suburb’s historic significance.
